okay its taking me to long to write a LONG chapter...so this is going to split into like 3 chapters.
reading it now I know its alot of Brynn/Joe but don;t worry. its just Kevin WILL be in it alot. just wait til you see what happens tonight. Kevin will never leave B again! lol
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: Babysitting The Kids
STILL SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2004 FRIDAY
Brynn looked at Kevin and noticed his attire. "Oh my god, Kevin. You look amazing!!!"
He was wearing a suit and tie and his hair was slicked back. Kevin smiled. "Thank you, B." He leaned down and gave her a kiss. Brynn pulled away. "But I gotta fix this...."
A minute later, Kevin’s hair was back to its curly self. Brynn smiled. "There." She grabbed a napkin from the kitchen and wiped her hands. "Who put this crap in your hair???"
"It was my mom’s idea..." Kevin muttered through his teeth as he smiled. Brynn glanced over his shoulder and saw Kevin’s parents all dressed up talking to Joe, Frankie, and Nick.
Brynn giggled. "Oh..right."
Kevin wrapped his arms around her and leaned forward a bit so his head rested on her shoulder. "You know?" Her began, "I am super jealous of Nick and Frankie tonight."
"Why?" Brynn asked, snuggling up to his chest. She looked at the wall beside them. "Because they get to eat chicken tenders, get baths then go straight to bed at 8:30?"
Kevin squeezed her and laughed. "Heck, yeah. You know how I like my chicken tenders."
Brynn giggled and Kevin smiled. "But seriously...they get the whole night with you. I only get to see you..."
"Kevin," His dad interrupted him, "It’s time to go!"
Kevin sighed and put his head on Brynn’s shoulder again. "I don’t wanna go..."
Brynn laughed and patted his back. "Okay, now. Be a big boy and go out to dinner with all of your relatives."
Kevin grunted and shook his head. "No..."
"You know if I was babysitting you I would put you in a time out." Brynn began giggling.
"If it gets me out of going tonight then heck yeah I want a time out.." Kevin said, dead serious.
Brynn stopped laughing and got worried for a moment. She lifted his head up. "What’s wrong, Kev?"
"Nothing.." He shrugged. "I don’t know. It’s just I have a bad feeling. I don’t know why though.."
"We’re all going to be fine. Me, Joe, Frankie and Nick, and you and the rest of your family are going to be fine. I promise."
Kevin gave a small smile. "I guess."
Brynn gave him a soft kiss then pulled away. Mr. And Mrs. Jonas were already outside. Brynn took Kevin’s hand. "Come on.." She said, basically dragging him to the front door. When they got there, she opened it and he walked out. She smiled and went to close the door but Kevin stopped her. "Why do I have to go tonight?"
Brynn stared at him. "Kevin are you sure you’re alright?"
He waved her off. "I’m fine, B. It’s just something’s not right. I don’t know what though."
Brynn gave him a reasurring smile. "It’s going to be alright."
Kevin went in to kiss her again but the sound of Mr.Jonas honking the car stopped him. He waved then quickly ran to the car and got it. After a moment, the car took off. When they were no longer in sight, Brynn closed the door, locked it, then went into the family room. Nick was sitting on the floor with Frankie helping him build a tower with blocks. They smiled at her as she walked by into the kitchen where Joe was. Brynn hopped up on the counter. "Is everything okay with Kevin, Joe?" She asked him. Joe turned around and looked at her. "I think so...why?"
"I don’t know." Brynn shrugged. "He was just acting weird..."
Joe laughed. "Maybe he’s weird-ed out by the fact that you and I are spending half the night together."
"Why would that bother him, though?" Brynn asked, hopping off the counter and walking to the pantry. She opened it up and pulled out the peanut butter. She unscrewed the cap. "I mean seriously.." She went to stick in her finger but Joe gave her a spoon.
He laughed. "You can’t honestly can’t be that naive’, B..."
Brynn made a face and stuck a huge spoonful of peanut butter in her mouth. "Mats not fue...I mean..oesn’t he trust me?" She was looking around for something, but Joe was already a step ahead. He gave her a glass of milk and she took a sip and nodded thanks.
Joe nodded back then said. "Of course he trusts you. And he trusts me. So that’s not why he’s upset."
"Does he hate any of your relatives?"
Joe thought for a moment. "No..."
Brynn put the peanut butter away. She went to grab something but yet again Joe was there first. He handed her a paper towel. She wiped her face off and took another sip of milk. "Okay you’re getting freaky."
Joe laughed and put his arm around her. "You’re my best friend, B. I just know."
Brynn smiled at him then put the glass of milk in the sink. She then looked over at Frankie and Nick. "So what..?"
"4:57pm." Joe replied and Brynn rounded on him. "You are really freaky...."
Joe winked. "I know."
"Oh well okay as long as you know." Brynn replied, rolling her eyes. "So when did your parents want them to eat?"
"5:15." Joe said as he walked into the livingroom and sat down on the couch. Brynn went over to the other couch and laid down. Frankie jumped up and crawled up beside her. Brynn smiled. "Soon we’re going to have dinner. How does that sound??"
Nick grabbed the remote and turned on the T.V. "That sounds good."
Brynn smiled. "Fantastic."
And hour and a half later, they had eaten dinner and they were now sitting at the table coloring. Joe had taken the boys upstairs after dinner, gave Frankie a bath, then got his two little brothers their Pj’s on while Brynn cleaned up the kitchen. As the four of them sat at the table and colored, Brynn hummed a song. When they were all done, Brynn smiled. She glanced over at Frankie. "So what did you draw, Frankie?"
The little boy smiled and showed her his picture. "That’s me...and Kevin...Nick....Joe...mommy and dad..and you!!"
Brynn smiled. "Aww! That’s so cool, Frankie!"
Joe glanced over at his brother’s drawing and made a face. "It looks like 7 blobs..."
Brynn elbowed Joe in his side and snatched his picture up. "Let’s see what you drew. Hm..." Brynn cocked her head and Joe grunted."This is a goofy picture. What is it?"
Joe snatched it back. "It’s not ready yet."
"It’s still goofy looking."
"You know what?" Joe grabbed Brynn’s picture and looked at it. He rolled his eyes. "Well this isn’t that great either."
"It’s better than yours," She replied, snatching it back and grabbing a blue crayon.
"No way. My picture is waaaaay better."
"Anyone want to see my picture?" Nick offered. He was ignored. Brynn laughed. "PWHA! No-way. At least you can TELL my picture is landscape. I have no clue what that is!"
"Its totally obvious." Joe replied, grabbing an orange crayon.
"Oh it is, huh?" Brynn asked, rolling her eyes.
"Exactly."
"Anyone want to see my picture?" Nick repeated hopefully.
"It is!" Joe retorted, and again Nick was ignored.
"It’s a blob! Its like nothing!"
"Yes it is!!!" Joe said, yelling. "It’s like amazing!"
"No it isn’t!" Brynn laughed, pointing to the picture. "It’s scribbles."
Joe shook his head."No it’s nooottt."
"Then what is it?" Brynn asked, rasing her eyebrows.
"It’s a blob." Joe replied, and gave the biggest smile.
Brynn’s gasped, dropped her mouth, and smiled all at the same time. She playfully smacked him. "DORK!" She said, lunging for him.
Joe laughed as he playfully smacked her back. The two began ‘fighting’ and Joe’s chair toppled over and they landed on the floor. Brynn pinned Joe to the floor. "Beat you."
Joe tried to get up but she knocked him down. He shook his head. "This wasn’t a fight."
"Uh-huh. Yes it was and I won."
Joe looked up at her. "You just got lucky. I could have beaten you."
Brynn gave him a look. "Then why am I not the one pinned to the ground?"
Joe furrowed his eyebrows. "One day I’m beat you."
Brynn hopped off him. "You keep telling yourself that, sweetie."
"Right." He began, as they both sat cross-legged on the floor. In one split second Joe was sitting there, then he lunged for Brynn, and within a second he was pinned on the floor again. He glared and Brynn began giggling. "You amaze me."
Joe gave a half-smile. "Well you just wait and see. One day I’ma win."
Brynn hopped off him again and stood up. Joe followed. They both began laughing. Brynn stopped when she saw Nick’s hurt face.
"Aww, buddie what’s wrong?" Joe asked, walking towards him.
Nick shrugged. "Well I was TRYING to show you my drawing."
"Oh we’re sorry." Brynn piped up.
Nick laughed. "It’s okay."
Joe picked up Frankie and Brynn checked her watch. "Okay it’s 7:00. You guys have an hour and a half. Hmmm..."
She was interrupted by Joe’s phone going off. He picked it up. "Hello? Oh..Hey Mandy.."
Brynn and Nick cleaned up the crayons and Nick put them away. Brynn walked over back to Joe.
He nodded. "Yeah..uh-huh....yup still babysitting. Haha. Too bad. Oh my god, what? Lucky. Well text time okay? Luv ya to. Bye!"
Joe hung up his phone and Brynn raised her eyebrow. "Luv ya Mandy?"
He shrugged her off. "I’ve known her since I was little."
"Mhmm." Brynn replied. "So, what did she want?"
Joe carried Frankie into the livingroom and put him on the couch, and turned on the TV. "She's having a party at her house and wanted to know if you and I could come."
"Oh..."
"Yupyup."
Nick came back in the room and sat on the couch with Frankie. "What do we do now?" he asked.
Brynn sat down on the floor and Joe followed. After a moment, Brynn glanced out the window. "Hey Joe, turn on the weather channel...."
Joe turned it on.
",...okay folks. Just be perpared. We're going to have a thunderstorm. Heavy rain, winds, thunder and lighting. Don't go outside unless you must. We'll be right back...."
The guys voice trailed off and Joe changed the channel. He glanced out the window as well. The sky was getting dark and it was cloudly. Brynn bit her lip. "I hope Kevin and your parents are going to be okay."
Joe patted her on the back. "Don't worry. They'll be fine."
Brynn gave a smile. "So what do you want to do til 8:30?"
"We can watch Spongebob!!!" Nick said, turning it on to one of his favrotie shows.
Joe laughed. "Spongebob it is."
"Plankton rocks." Brynn observed.
"Not as much as Squidward." Joe said.
"Dream on."
Joe smiled and lightly smacked his best friend. She giggled and shook her head.
preview for next chapter!! : Brynn began sobbing and Joe began breathing fast and hard. "Oh god they’re in the house! Oh my god!" Joe let out.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR: Babysitting The Kids. Part Two 1. STILL SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2004 FRIDAY When Spongebob was over, Frankie was asleep, Joe was cleaning, and Brynn stared out the window and watched as the thunder and lighting crashed along with the sound on the heavy rain. "Looks like its coming down hard.." Brynn observed. Joe glanced at the window, then picked up a sleeping Frankie. He then glanced at Nick. "Can you turn on the lights for me?" "Sure." Nick nodded then ran through the house turning on the lights so Joe could see where he was going. Joe began walking and Brynn followed. The rain was so loud Brynn thought the house was going to cave in on itself. As they took the corner and went down the hall at the top of the steps, a huge flash a light, a giant rumbling thunder, then everything went black. Joe almost tripped on a toy on the floor. He stumbled and held onto Frankie. "Crap!!" Nick tried to look around. It was pitch black. "Where is everyone?" "Over here, Nick." Joe said. Nick reached out and grabbed something. "Joe?" "No, its me." Brynn replied. "Oh.." Nick said, blushing. He was happy no one could see him. "Ugh, Joe," Brynn began, "The power must have went out. What do we do?" "First," Joe said, moving his arms so he supported Frankie with one, and found he wall with the other. "Lets get Frankie and Nick to bed." Brynn took Nick’s hand and they slowly found their room. Joe put Frankie in his bed and tucked him in. He gave him a kiss on the cheek, then went over and made sure Nick was safe and sound. Brynn held her arms out and found the door. Her eyes were slowly focusing..but it still was pitch black. It seemed every light in the state of New Jersey lost power. "Goodnight, guys." Joe said, walking towards Brynn. She grabbed his arm and lead him to the door. "Everything’s going to be okay. See you in the morning." "Shouldn’t I come and help you?" Nick asked, yawning. "I’m almost 12. I can help!" Joe gave a smile. "We’re fine. I promise. We’ll come get you if we need you. But for now you’re fine. You gotta keep an eye out for.." "..Joe.." "..for Frankie. Make sure he’s alright.." "...Joe.." "And.." "JOE!" Brynn hissed. He rounded on her. Well, he thought it was her. It was actually the wall. "Whaaat!?" Brynn made a face, reached out and turned Joe to face her. "Nick’s already asleep." "Oh.." "Yeah. Now lets go try and get some light in the house." Joe nodded and stumbled out of the room and out into the hallway. His leg caught on Brynn’s and she went stumbling out, too. But unlike Joe, she landed on the floor. Joe choked back a laugh. "You okay?" Brynn was about to answer, but her phone went off. She answered it. "Hello?" She whispered. "Brynn?" It was Kevin. "Yea it’s me." Brynn grunted. Her arm hit the ground pretty hard. "Are you okay?" Kevin asked quickly, with worry in his voice. Joe held out a hand for Brynn. She nodded. "Yeah I’m okay. I just tripped on Joe and now Im on the floor." Joe helped her up and she nodded thanks. "Do I need to beat Joe?" Brynn laughed. "No no. What you need to get mad at the house." "What happened?" "The stupid storm clicked off just about every power line. I swear all of New Jersey is black." "Is everyone okay?" Kevin asked. Brynn nodded. "Yeah everyone’s fine. We just put Frankie and Nick to bed and now Joe and I are going to find some candles or flashlights." "They’re in the..." Kevin stopped. "One sec." "K.." Brynn replied, grabbing Joe’s arm as they slowly made their way downstairs. A moment later Kevin got back on the line. “B?” “I’m still here.” She said, reaching out to grab the stair’s railing. “Dad said all of our flashlights and everything are out in the garage. But first, you and Joe have to go and try popping the circuit breaker, okay?” “Gotcha..” “And if that doesn’t work..you have to go out and get the stuff in the garage. Joe will know where it is.” “Mhm..” Brynn replied, still holding onto Joe. Her arm began throbbing. Tears began pricking at her eyes. “Honey are you okay?” Kevin asked quietly. Brynn nodded and tried to not walk into a wall. She was pretty sure she and Joe had got to the kitchen. “I just landed on my arm really bad...it hurts like crazy.” Joe let go of her and went to find something. Brynn turned away from him. “Kevin when are you coming back?” She asked, desperately. Her arm was throbbing, there was no power, and it was raining like crazy. She heard Kevin sigh. “That’s what I called to tell you. There was a horrible car accident and now we’re stuck in traffic. We can barely see the car in front of us its raining that hard.” Brynn instantly forgot her pain. “Listen to me Kevin, you make sure you get back okay. Understand?” She heard Kevin laugh. “Don’t worry, baby. I’ll be fine.” Brynn sighed, then screamed when she heard Joe crash into something and fall. “What!?!?” Kevin basically yelled. Brynn cursed. “Uh..nothing. I think Joe fell over something. I gotta go help him. Please hurry back. But be careful, okay Kevin?” “I promise. If you can, get some advil, and go help Joe.” “I will. And I love you, Kevin. I wish you were with me..” Kevin looked at his phone, then around the place where he and his parents were stuck in the car in the middle of the interstate. He gave a bitter laugh. “Me, too, honey.” “I love you, goodbye.” “I love you too, be careful.” “You, too!” Kevin could tell she was running trying to find Joe. “Yes m’am.” And with that, Kevin bit his lip and ran his hands through his hair. He said a quick prayer, then leaned his head against the cold glass window beside him. Brynn hung up the phone and felt her way around the kitchen. “Jooee!?!?” She called. She saw that a door was open and she slowly walked towards it. It was the door that lead down into the basement. Brynn gulped. It was even darker down there. She sat down on the steps and began to make her way down. A million steps later, (or so it felt like), Brynn reached the bottom of the stairs and began to crawl around the attic. “Jooe?” She called. “Yes?” He sounded close. “Where are you?” Brynn asked, crawling through total darkness. She knocked into something. “Here.” It was Joe. “What are you doing?” Brynn asked, grabbing his leg and standing up. “Trying to find the effing circuit breaker.” Joe replied, feeling the wall. Brynn frowned. “How come our eyes haven’t adjusted yet!?!?!” Joe shrugged and continued to look for it. After a moment he let out a yelp. “Found it!” “Okay..open it.” Brynn said, walking over to him. Joe felt around til he found a latch. He opened it up..flipped all the switches. They waited. After a moment, Joe did it again. And again. And again. Joe cursed. Nothing but darkness. “It didn’t work.” Brynn rolled her eyes, then grabbed Joe’s hand and they began to make their way upstairs. When they got to the kitchen, Brynn went over to the back door and opened it up. She glanced at the rain and grunted. “We have to go out there and get all the stuff.” “I can go if you want.” Joe offered. Brynn shook her head. “No. I don’t want you to go by yourself. Okay.” She took Joe’s hand again. “Lets do this fast.” By the time they got to the garage, the two were absolutely soaking wet. The sky was pitch black,(even though it was only around 9ish), and it was raining harder than ever. Brynn moved her hair out of her face as Joe ran to the other side of the garage and grabbed a box. “Got it.” A few minutes later they were both back inside the kitchen. Brynn took her phone out of her pocket and patted it dry with a towel as Joe began turning on the flashlights. Brynn tried her phone and then cursed. “My phone is broken!” “What?” “It broke! It’s sopping wet and won’t work!” Brynn yelled, and placed her phone on the table and went over to help him. “Don’t worry, B. We have mine.” Before she could reply, the once dark house was suddenly illuminated by a flash of lighting. The room glowed blue, then it was gone in a flash, followed by the crack and rumble of thunder. The house shook. Brynn screamed, “Oh my god!” Joe turned on a flashlight and gave one to her and took one for himself. “It’s okay. Lets go and check everything.” Brynn began to shiver as she and Joe walked through the house. “Joe?” She whispered. “What?” “I’m scared.” Joe turned to her. “Are you serious?” She nodded. “It’s in the middle of the night, we have no power. My phone’s broken...your parents and Kevin are out there on the roads and...” “Brynn, listen to me. We’re going to be fine.” She looked at him, but then at the window behind him. Her eyes went wide and she let out a scream. Joe whipped around just in time to see two dark figures by the window. One held something in their hand. The next moment, the slammed it against the window and the glass broke. The alarm went off but that didn’t stop them. They began breaking the huge window in the livingroom until it was big enough for them to crawl in. Brynn let out a scream and her flashlight dropped and clicked off. Luckly, her scream mixed with the sudden lighting and thunder, and it wasn’t heard. Joe quickly shut off his flash light, dropped it and grabbed Brynn’s hand. He was breathing hard and his heart was pumping a mile a minute. He glanced at the steps. He took off and dragged Brynn behind them. They raced up the stairs. Joe’s mind was trying to figure out what to do. He could hear breaking glass, Brynn’s cries, and his throbbing head. Joe turned the corner still holding her hand.
Joe’s back slammed into the wall as he hit the floor. He grabbed Brynn and pulled her towards him in on fail swoop. He wrapped his arm around her chest with on arm, and the other around her stomach. They were both breathing hard and soaking wet. Brynn could hear Joe’s heart thump along with the sound of the pouring ran outside. Brynn closed her eyes and held onto Joe as he held tight onto her. He knocked his head against the wall. Brynn could hear all the sounds. Drip. Drip. Drip. Knock. Knock. Knock. Then one sound she wished she never had heard: bam. Brynn’s eyes snapped open. "Joe.." Her voice rasped as her eyes filled with tears. She shook him. "Joe." He stopped knocking his head against the wall and his eyes went to the end of the hallway. His head was throbbing as he continued to hear the sound of people in the house. Brynn was crying. She slightly shook him. "Joe they’re...they’re in the house, Joe." Her voice sounded like sandpaper as it cracked. Joe was thinking fast. They had to be quiet. He was holding on to Brynn so tight that she could barley breathe. "Just stay quiet, B.." Joe said in her ear. She began crying and she closed her eyes again. "B stay with me." Joe demanded desperately. He buried his head into her shoulder as she squeezed his hand. They sat there for a moment until they heard another sound. It sounded like a cry. A cry from someone very small. Brynn and Joe’s head snapped up at the same time. "Frankie." They both whispered. That moment Joe shot up. He grabbed Brynn’s hand and they took off down the hallway. Joe basically kicked down his little brothers door and he and Brynn raced in. When they were both in Joe slammed the door as Brynn ran over to Frankie’s bed and picked him up in her arms. Nick shot up in bed. "I heard noises, Joe." He said, getting out of bed. "Frankie and I heard something and–.." He was cut off by Joe’s hand clamped over his mouth. The moonlight shown through Nick’s window and dimly lite up Brynn and Joe. Nick glanced at Brynn. She was soaking wet and her eyes were filled with tears. Nick’s eyes snapped in Joe’s direction. His brother still silenced him with his hand. Joe was soaking wet as well, and his once happy, livelily eyes were now blood-shot, and scarred. Tears pored down Joe’s face. Nick pushed his big brothers hand away. "Joe what’s wrong?" Joe shook his head. "Listen to me, Nick. You have to be quiet." "Joe..what’s.." "Please, Nick." Brynn pegged. She was rocking Frankie back and forth, but she looked like the one who needed comforting. Nick was about to say something when they all heard a loud sound. Brynn began sobbing and Joe began breathing fast and hard. "Oh god they’re in the house! Oh my god!" Joe let out. He whipped around to Nick. "Listen to me, Nick. Take Frankie and you two hide in the attic, okay? Do not come out and don’t make a sound. If you can, find mom and dads phone and call 911 you understand?” “Joe what’s happening??!” “No time, Nick. There’s someone in the house. Go. Take. Frankie. Now.” Nick’s eyes widen with fear and he got the message. “Be careful.” He whispered. He then grabbed his little brother, oblivious to what was happening, and ran out the room and up into the attic. Brynn grabbed Joe. “What do we do, Joe?” Without a word, he walked out of the room and over to the stairs. Brynn followed. “We need to call 911, Joe!” Brynn whispered, tugging at his arm. Joe reached into his pocket, then a look of horror appeared on his face. Brynn looked at him. His eyes filled up with tears. He looked down, then at Brynn. “My phone’s downstairs.”
