here's chapter four!
CHAPTER FOUR:
By the time I had finished explaining Connor the events of today and the Jonas boys, his arms were crossed and he was glaring at me. “Were you EVER panning on telling me this?”
I scoffed. “I just DID.”
“But you wouldn’t have if I didn’t catch you.”
I opened my mouth, then closed it. I looked at him and he looked right back. After a moment, I sighed. “I don’t know. I mean, I would have told you...”
“Do mom and dad know?”
“NO!” I jumped and he began laughing. “So which one of these boys are you madly in love with?”
I turned bright red. “NONE!”
“Oh c’mon. That Nick one? Or Joe...or Frankie?”
“Frankie’s 3.” I said, looking at my feet.
“What about the guy who called you? Devon?”
“KEVIN!!” I said, a bit too loudly and with a bit too much concern. I bit my lip and began turning even brighter red.
Connor smiled and crossed his arms. “So...Kevin. How old is this guy?”
“16....”
“Just turned 16? Or what?”
“What does it matter?!?” I snapped. Why was he doing this to me!?
“It does matter. So spill.”
I gritted my teeth. “He was born ‘87. Happy?”
Connor’s mouth dropped. “He’s MY age??!”
“You’re only two years older than me!”
“Yeah...but guys my age are only interested in one thing!”
I got mad. I can’t believe he said that. “So you’re saying that if Kevin did like me...he doesn’t like me for me. He just Wants me. Thanks Connor.”
Before he could reply, I whipped around and began walking away. A huge crowd of people cut between us and I heard Connor calling my name as I walked away. I didn’t care, and I began running through the mall I had only been to once. About five minutes later I was completely lost, angry, and tearing up. My phone began ringing. I ripped it open and pressed it to my ear.
“I don’t want to talk to you right now you freaking jerk. You don’t care about ANYTHING but yourself and it drives me crazy! You know there are other people in the world! So wrap that around your little, unintelligent brain!!” I was basically screaming into the phone and people began staring. I cringed as I look around...and I could had died on the spot as the person who called me began talking.
“Brynn? It’s me...Kevin...a-are you okay?”
I began crying. HOW could I answer the phone without looking at caller ID? I made my way to a bench and sat down. I leaned forward and shielded my eyes with my hand.
“Brynn?” Kevin asked again. I couldn’t talk. This was horrible. I gulped. “Yeah..I’m here.”
“Are you okay?” he asked again.
I nodded. “Yes. I’m sorry. I just had...had a major fight with my brother. You know the one who you talked to earlier?”
He gave a little laugh. “Vividly.”
I nodded. “Well, yeah. We just had a fight. And I thought you were him calling..” I took a deep breath. “You must think I’m crazy.”
He laughed again. “Not at all. Sometimes I get into fights with my brothers. Remember...I have three. You only have one....or...I think....well..you said...uh...”
He began stuttering and I could help but smile. I wiped my eyes and giggled. “Yeah. I just have one.”
“Well, do you want to..talk about it?” he asked hesitantly.
“Not really..” I mumbled. But I don’t think he heard me.
“I always vented after a fight. Mostly to Mandy. She always told me never to bottle things up.”
I shot up. “Mandy?” Great. Mr. Perfect has a girlfriend and I just screamed at Connor for no reason.
“Uh...yea...she’s uh...well..”
“It’s okay. Never mind.” I said, cutting him off. “Well...Connor and I were talking..then it became fighting.”
“Did you say anything you’ll regret?” he asked, thoughtfully.
I thought for a moment. “No...not really.”
He laughed. “You just took all your anger out on me. Well, thinking I was your brother. How do you feel now?”
“Better actually.” I said, surprised. I pictured him nodding. “Then you’re fine.”
I smiled. “I don’t think I could ever really be mad at him. He’s my world. Without him life wouldn’t be worth living. I know we don’t agree on every little detail...but for the most part...we’re like one person. He used to joke saying I was his really really short twin.”
Kevin laughed. “I can’t wait to meet him.”
I coughed. “About that...I don’t think...”
Somebody reached down and grabbed my phone. I was about to yell when I heard.
“And he would like to meet you too. Hey dude, it’s Connor. You’re Kevin, right? Yeah. So when exactly were you planning on meeting up with my sister? Tomorrow? That’s cool. Who’s birthday? Ooohh. Well that’s cool. Well you can defiantly count on Brynn and I coming. Hm? Yeah..sure. Hold up.”
I saw my brother hand me my phone. Open mouthed, I took it and put it to my ear. “Hello?”
“I just talked to Connor.” Kevin informed me.
“I know..” I said, staring at my brother. He was giving a shy smile.
“Anyway..I was calling to ask you a favor.”
“Sure?”
“Bought Joe’s present yet?”
I shook my head. “Not yet.”
He gave a sigh. “Thank God! Well, Joe heard me talking to you about it and he got upset. He doesn’t want you to get him a Barney toy.”
I laughed. “Okay.”
We sat there saying nothing until Kevin broke the silence. “Well I’ll let you go now. Talk to you later. Byee.”
“Bye!” I said, hanging up the phone. I then stood up and looked at Connor.
“Im SORRY!” we both said, then hugged each other. When we pulled away, Connor looked at me. “So how old is this Joe kid turning?”
“15...”
Connor grabbed my hand. “I know the perfect thing.” he said, and began dragging me through the mall.
4 hours and 30minutes later, we had bought Joe a gift, found mom, ate at the food court, drove home, wrapped up Joe’s present, then went to bed. As Connor and I brushed our teeth, we both talked about what happened earlier. By the time we were done, we were okay again. Connor even kissed my head as I was about to leave to go to my room. He laughed. “Now go get your beauty rest for your Prince Charming. Lord knows you need it.”
I smacked him and we began laughing.
“Goodnight, Connie.” I said, closing my door in his face.
“GOODNIGHT SHORTY!!!” he yelled, only to be yelled at by dad in the other room. I bursted out laughing as I heard he run into his room and slammed the door. I got under the covers, and I began drifting off to sleep thinking about....my prince charming.
