I think it still happens. I don't think Joe and Kevin would just abruptly stop annoying him. and if so, not many brothers do that. Its still really funny. I mean, of all the things to freak you out, people taking your socks? I could understand if they were taking his boxers or his shirts, or maybe Kevin swipping some guitar picks, but socks?? Oh well, I guess

Chapter17 “Alright,” Joe mumbled, placing a hand in front of his mouth as he swallowed the last of his egg sandwich. “Breakfast break’s over.” He stood up from the improvised picnic area on the floor and offered a hand to Adina. She quickly wiped her mouth with a napkin and accepted the help, standing up beside Joe. “Thanks.” She said as Joe swiped the empty takeout bags off the floor and brought them to a nearby trash can. “No problem,” He insisted. “I was starving.” “You and your brothers,” Adina laughed and shook her head. “You’re never not hungry.” “Hey, we’re busy guys!” Joe said in his defense. “And you,” He said, pointing to Adina, “are about to become a very busy girl. Come on.” He picked up a bag he had brought and began quickly walking to the edge of the curtain that they had been eating behind and gestured for Adina to follow. By the time she got onto the stage, Joe was already off of it. “Where are you going?” She questioned. Joe gestured for her to follow. “Careful.” He muttered as she sat on the edge of the stage. He held on to her arm as she jumped to the floor. “How is this rehearsing?” “It’s not,” Joe agreed, turning and walking into the audience. “It’s getting you comfortable with the environment.” “Excuse me?” “Don’t question, just listen. I’m in charge today, understood? I was given a whole list of things we need to work on, and I plan to follow it. I’m in enough trouble as it is already.” “Ok, so what’s first?” “Trust exercises.” “Like falling backwards and having the other person catch you?” “Sort of.” “Is this really necessary?” “Do you trust me?” “No.” “Do you think I trust you?” “No.” “Well then I guess it is necessary, isn’t it?” Joe stopped in the aisle next to a row of seats and faced Adina. “Turn around.” Reluctantly, she obeyed. “Now fall back.” Joe instructed, holding his arms out. With a deep breath, Adina leaned backwards. She stepped back and caught herself before Joe could. He held his breath for a moment to keep himself from commenting. “Try again.” Adina fell back once again, and once again she stumbled to keep from falling. “I’m not going to drop you!” Joe exclaimed. “Ok!” Adina snapped back. Joe sighed. “Alright, it isn’t going to help us to get mad at each other. Turn around.” He said. Adina turned to face him. Before she could say anything, he put one hand across her back, bent down and put his other arm behind her knees, and scooped her up. She gasped and threw her hands around his neck for support, kicking a few times in an attempt to get down. “There,” He said smugly, looking down at her. “I can hold you. I can jump,” he said, jumping to prove his point, “I can walk,” he took a few steps forward, “and I can do whatever I want with you without a problem. I won’t drop you, alright?” He asked, carefully placing her back on the ground. Adina pouted and smoothed out her shirt. “One more time.” Joe prompted. “Fine.” Adina turned around again, and closed her eyes. “I‘m going to fall,” she mumbled to herself, over and over as she fell backwards. Suddenly she felt a pair of arms under her own, and her body leaned against Joe’s. “You can open your eyes now,” he smirked. She did, and he was staring down at her. “Well would you look at that,” he mused, lifting her back to her feet. “You didn’t fall.” Adina shrugged. “Now, according to the list,” Joe continued, pulling the folded paper out of his back pocket, “not even Michael trusts you enough to hold me up.” “ I don’t even trust myself to catch you.” “Good, that makes the three of us, then. So you’re supposed to blindfold me and lead me through an obstacle course.” “What obstacle course?” “You make one. It’s called being creative.” Joe rolled his eyes. “But we aren’t going to do that.” “Why? You don’t trust me?” “We don’t have all day. I have a representative from LionBeat magazine coming at one - it wasn’t my idea, trust me. And then we still have to rehearse and get ready for tonight. Besides, I don’t have to trust you; I’m not the one with problems on stage. Do you want to do the obstacle course? I have a blindfold.” He said, motioning to the bag he had placed in a nearby seat. “No, that’s ok.” Adina said quickly. Joe nodded. “They only wanted us to do it so that we’d bond, and become really close; and then you might start to like me, and I might start to like you, and we’d start to date, and you get all the publicity Michael wants.” He said. Adina didn’t respond. “Do you get what I’m saying? I mean, we can be on tour together. We can be friends, that’s fine. But they want to take it too far. They’re trying to force both of us into a relationship, and it just can’t happen like that. And with Maria…” “I know, I get it. And I completely agree.” Adina said, cutting him off. Joe nodded. “Ok,” He looked back at the paper in his hands. “This whole thing is like a teambuilding camp all over again,” He muttered, shaking his head. “We’re going online.” He handed the paper to Adina while he fished through his bag and pulled out a laptop. “Read me the website?” He asked, staring in concentration at the screen as he clicked various things. Adina read the link out loud as Joe typed it. “A personality quiz?” She asked, looking at the headline of the website as she sat in the seat next to Joe. “Apparently.” He said, looking it over. We have to take it for each other. Like you say what you think I would answer, and vice versa.” “Rules,” Adina said, reading the paper. “No negative, sarcastic, or smart-alecky remarks.” “Oh, this should be fun.” “I don’t know if I can follow that rule.” Adina smirked. “I’ll try if you try.” “Deal.” “Ok, you can do the quiz. Here.” Joe handed the computer over to Adina, and she balanced it on her lap. “You’re answering about me, then?” “Just open the same page in a new tab and do both at the same time.” Joe said and turned in his seat to face her. “Ok; the quiz is ‘What Were You In A Past Life?’ Number one - If I saw an old woman struggling to get across the street before the light changed, what would I do? Scoop her into my arms, running and hollering like Xena all the way to the curb; order the guys around me to help her to the curb; trip her on purpose and laugh with the other meanies when she nearly gets flattened by a taxi; or hold her under my arms, carry her to the curb, and finish he shopping errands for her while she sips on a latte at the local Starbucks?” “Can’t they just have a plain old ‘walk her to the curb and continue with your life’?” Joe asked. Adina shrugged. “Fine, I guess you’d get the guys around you to do it.” “That’s reasonable, I guess.” Adina agreed, and clicked the corresponding option. “Same for you?” “What? No way; I’d totally do the Xena one!” He exclaimed. Adina laughed. “Ok, fine.” She clicked the answer on his quiz and continued to the next question. “Most of my dreams are: full of bloody violence and epic battles; about scenes of riches, luxury and people serving my every need; comical and ridiculous; about torture and being lost in dark places? I’m putting you down as comical and ridiculous.” “Being lost in dark places.” Joe said. “Why?” Adina asked. Joe shrugged. “Ok, I guess. My parents would say I’m too: spoiled; aggressive; hyper; or quiet?” “Quiet.” “No way, that’s my sister. I’m gonna say hyper for you.” “That’s Frankie.” “Would you rather I say spoiled?” “What’s the next question?” “If I could be any animal, which would I be? A lioness; a tiger; a monkey; or a donkey?” “A lioness? You seem like you could be a lion, I guess. Independent. Caring, but able to hunt something down and kill it in an instant, if you have to.” “Ok, then you’re a tiger. Mysterious and graceful; loved by many, and for good reasons, I suppose, but still fierce.” Adina decided. “If I were a dessert, which would I be? A rich chocolate mousse; a box of thick and chewy caramels; dried apricots; or a banana split?” “Apricots. Plain and conventional, but still great.” Adina clicked on his answer, and though about the question herself. “Banana split. Because there are so many different parts to it, and same with you. There’s the Joe the fans see, the Joseph your parents, brothers, and friends see, and whatever it is you call what I see.” “Charming and utterly amazing?” “You wish.” Adina smirked. “What is my favorite color of these: metallic silver; royal purple; red, yellow, green - anything bright and cheery; or brown?” “Um,” Joe thought, “royal purple.” “Sure, I guess. I’m going to have to go with bright and cheery, based on your pants.” Adina smiled. Joe laughed. “In class, my personality is: the class clown; the one who hides in the back of the class, hoping the teacher won’t call on me; respectful of my teachers; or answering every question, sucking in the knowledge for the future.” “I’m pretty sure we both graduated already.” Joe said. Adina raised an eyebrow at him. “Ok, ok; that last one was your sister, right? I can’t see you hiding from anyone or anything, or purposefully getting yourself in trouble. So you’re probably the respectable one?” “You’re the class clown, definitely.” Adina said before moving on to the next question. “My favorite kind of fictional character is: strong, smart, and feminine; proud, charismatic, and a born leader; funny; or quiet, shy, and willing to do others’ bidding? I‘m going with funny for you.” “The leader one.” “When my best friend get really mad at me and I know it’s my fault, I: end up getting into a physical fight with them; talk my way out of it so they end up apologizing to me; laugh and joke my way out of it; or beg for forgiveness?” “Talk your way out of it. It’s one of those things almost every girl can use against you.” “Hey, I’d apologize if it really was my fault! You’d joke your way out of it, am I right?” “Depends on the situation, I guess.” “If I could design the perfect slumber party at my house, it would include me spending most of the night in the kitchen making snacks for my friends to enjoy while they just relax; playing goofy pranks; doing scavenger hunts around the neighborhood; or getting my friends to give me a manicure, pedicure, hair styling, and facial?” “If I say the first one, will you invite me over for a sleepover and make me snacks?” “Not a chance.” “Fine,” Joe said. “Put it down anyways.” “Alright, let’s see…according to you, I’m an Amazon warrior.” “Sweet, what’s it say?” “Strong, female, and proud, you were a mighty Amazonian warrior! Fierce and independent, you protected the weak and thrilled in the glory of battle.” Adina laughed. Joe smiled. “Is that not exactly what I said about you?” He asked. “What am I?” “A court jester. In your past life, you tickled funny bones for a living as the court jester. You loved to laugh, and you loved making people laugh as well.” “That was kind of fun.” Joe admitted with a smile. “Yea, it was.” Adina agreed. “Wanna do another one?” “Sure,” Adina looked over the list of quizzes on the website. She giggled. “How about ‘What Lip Gloss Flavor Are You’?” “Strawberry kiwi.” Joe nodded, keeping a straight face until Adina started laughing. “We’ll see.” She said between giggles. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's Note: first of all, i'll site my sources, the personality quiz, it's questions, and it's results were all real, taken from www.myjellybean.com/games/personalityquiz/quizflowerq.htmSecond of all, the next couple of chapters are gonna probably be similar to this one..most likely less trust/team building type things because i'm getting tired of them haha, but you'll have to bear with the boring-ness of rehearsing, interviews, getting to know each other, etc. for a little longer. this is one of those times where I really wish i could just make this a movie so i could put on a cool song and then just fade in and out of different scenes in like 2 seconds and make the day go by in 5 minutes or so. but thats impossible, unfortunately. anyways, then i dont know exactly what will happen, just more of the tour, and then when August comes, I promise you, things will get more exciting (I'm following the actual Burnin Up tour schedule for the most part, and, I'm sorry to say, it's only July 14)

Chapter 18
Joe and Adina both stopped laughing when Joe’s cell phone rang.
“Hello?” He said, grinning and holding a finger to his lips as Adina struggled to hold her fit of giggles in. “Oh, hi Michael…yea, she’s here…we’re just talking…yes, we’re following your list very closely.” He said with a roll of his eyes. Adina smirked. Joe silently shushed her again and continued talking to Michael. He sighed when he hung up.
“What’s going on?” Adina asked.
“Your manager’s a psycho maniac.” Joe muttered.
“Gee, thanks.”
“He tells me that the interview is going to be at noon, right? And that he’d meet us here to help you, and we’d get everything done over lunch.”
“Yea, and?”
“He just called to let me know that there’s been a change of plans.” Joe explained in disgust. “The interview’s allegedly been moved an hour earlier, and because of it, he can’t make it.”
“Oh, wow, that’s too bad. Should we reschedule?” Joe stared at Adina for a moment and shook his head.
“Adina, listen to me now. The interview has always been for 11. Michael was never planning on coming.”
“It’s 10:55.” Adina noted. Joe nodded.
“Now you’re catching on.” He said, the anger returning to his expression. “When are they going to give this up? It’s ridiculous! It shouldn’t be my job to train you! Like I don’t have my own life to keep track of!” He muttered to himself.
“Joe!” Adina exclaimed. He looked at her.
“What?” He snapped.
“What am I going to do? This is your every day; this is my first time doing any of this! The performing, the interviews, the fame, everything! And all we’ve done today is talk and play stupid games. I know it’s what you have to do, but I’m freaking out here! I don’t know what to do now, or tonight, or for the rest of the tour. Everyone’s telling me that the only person that’s going to help me is you. And you’re refusing to.” She cried. Joe sighed.
“Alright,” he said quietly after a moment. “Alright. Look, they’ll be here any minute. Just…for now, don’t say anything unless it’s absolutely necessary. And if it is, follow my lead. You and Noelle are like best friends. Always have been, always will be.” Adina laughed, cutting Joe off. He stared at her. “Best friends.” He repeated seriously. “Are your parents supportive of you being here?”
“Well, my mom is, I guess. My dad was against the whole thing and-” Adina started, only to be interrupted by Joe.
“Are your parents supportive of you being here?” He asked again.
“Um,” Adina said quietly, “very?” Joe nodded.
“Good, you’re catching on. You can be completely honest as far as your friendship with my brothers, Cami, and everyone else is. Don’t mention that Nick likes you. Not only will he kill you because he’s still denying it, but it will start who knows how many rumors. And the only rumors anybody around here wants are ones about us. And as for any questions about us, don’t say yes but don’t say no. Just let me handle it.” Joe said quickly and glanced at the clock. “And don’t even think about saying a single word about Maria or Danni.”
“Danni?” Adina asked. Joe raised an eyebrow.
“You haven’t heard of her?” He chuckled. “Wow, we must be even better at keeping secrets that we thought. You’ll meet her soon. Until then, forget I said anything. I think that covers everything. Just think what Disney would want you to say, and say it. If they ask you anything that you don’t know how to answer, don’t. I’ll handle it.” His head shot towards the back door as it opened. “Now just smile and look pretty.” He said through his teeth, waving to the small group of people who were entering the arena. They met them halfway through the audience and Joe plastered a grin on his face, lighting up his eyes and erasing any trace of anger or frustration. Adina, however, had hints of nervousness written on every inch of her body as Joe greeted the people.
“It’s so good to see you again!” He was saying, giving each of the women a friendly hug and shaking the men’s hands. “I’d like you to meet Adina Cartell. Adina, this is Lisa, Amy, Mark, Joey, and…” He trailed off, looking at the one person he hadn’t named yet.
“Scott.” He said quickly.
“Scott’s interning for us this summer.” One of the women explained. Joe smiled and nodded.
“Nice to meet you.” He said, subtly nudging Adina.
“Yes,” She agreed, offering a small smile. “It’s nice to meet all of you.”
“No brothers today?” Another one of the interviewers asked.
“No, not today.” Joe said. “They’re back at the hotel, we just came a bit early to work on our performance.”
“Oh, next time then. Are you guys ready to get started?”
“Yep, let’s go!” Joe said enthusiastically. “We can sit up there, if you’d like. Would that be ok, Joey?” He asked, looking to the man carrying a camera. He inspected the area where Joe had pointed to, the first few rows of seating, and nodded.
“Perfect. I’d like to get some stage shots of the two of you, too, a little bit later.”
“Of course!” Joe nodded and motioned for the others to walk ahead. He caught Adina’s arm as she turned, and pulled her closer to him. “We are so not doing that that. So don’t remind them.” He whispered in her ear before releasing her and following the rest of the group to the seats. Adina looked at him confusedly for a moment before quickening her pace to catch up. Everybody else was already seated when she arrived, in two separate rows. Joe was in the middle of the women and Joey stood around them in the aisle, already taking pictures. “Why don’t you sit right here, Adina?” Joe offered innocently, patting the back of the seat in front of him. She nodded.
“Ok,” She agreed, sitting down and turning to face the others.
“So,” Lisa said, holding up a voice recorder and pressing the start button as the other two women prepared to write everything they saw down. “How’s the tour going, Joe?”
“Great. The turnout is amazing, we’re always so shocked to see how many fans actually show up every night. And there are people who actually sleep outside of the venue the night before then show or the day tickets went on sale; it’s ridiculous. We see it and we’re always just like ‘are you serious? We aren’t worth this!’”
“Oh, you boys are totally worth it!” Amy piped up. Joe chuckled.
“Well, thanks.”
“Now, Adina, you’re with the Jonas’ for the entire tour?” Lisa asked, holding the recorder out towards Adina. She opened her mouth, but Joe spoke first.
“That’s right. She and her sister met us up in Canada for the first day and will be with us all the way through August. We’ve been rehearsing ever since she got here, and we’re going to start performing a song together every night starting today.”
“Right, you’re doing Love Bug. We saw a video of last night’s show on YouTube.” Joe let himself laugh.
“Is that online already?” He asked. Adina felt her cheeks heat up. “Wow, people are taking it seriously. Can you believe it, Adina?” He asked. Everybody looked to Adina, and she shook her head, staring uncomprehendingly at Joe. “That was a joke. Well, more like a prank, I guess. Usually when bands are on tour together, on either the first or last night, there are tons of pranks involved. On the Look Me In The Eyes tour that we did, one night my brothers and I came out on stage dressed in monkey suits during our opener’s set. Last night - it was really stupid, actually - we took the batteries out of Adina’s microphone before she came on.”
“That’s kind of mean.”
“Yea, it didn’t seem so bad when we were planning it. But then she came out, and was already suspicious when she saw I wasn’t in my planned position; and when she started to sing and realized the microphone wasn’t working, she kind of freaked out a little and got distracted trying to figure out what was going on, and because of it messed up the lyrics a little bit. And all of that would make anybody scared - especially when you’re nervous enough before you even get on stage, and we all are, every night. But she got us back big time later that night, and we all apologized for everything and laughed it all off. Tonight’s the real deal; it’s going to be incredible.” Joe smiled, glancing at Adina.
“What did she do to get you back?” Joe looked down modestly and glanced back up at Lisa timidly through his eyelashes.
“I’d rather not say; it’s kind of embarrassing. But, I can tell you it was definitely the best revenge we’ve ever seen. We looked like idiots.”
“You boys? Never! Well, we’re looking forward to seeing you really sing tonight, Adina.”
“Thank you,” She smiled, “I’m kind of looking forward to having a working microphone myself.” She smirked at Joe. The interviewers laughed, overenthusiastically.
“You were doing pretty good without it though, even in the fan videos we could hear you, loud and clear.” Adina’s smiled quickly disappeared and she glanced frantically at Joe. He just smiled.
“What can I say?” He shook his head. “She’s amazing.” Adina felt herself blushing again.
“Oh, I’m sure she is.” Lisa agreed. “Joe said you were here with your sister? Is she going to perform at all with you? Tell us about her. And what is it like being on tour with the Jonas Brothers?” Adina looked to Joe, and he nodded.
“Go ahead.” He mouthed.
“No, she won’t be performing.” Adina responded. “Her name is Noelle; she’s 15, just a little younger than Nick. She was really excited to come on tour with us, she’s been a huge fan of the boys since the beginning.” She paused, and then chuckled to herself. Joe quickly lifted a finger and slid it across his throat, silently telling her not to mention that her sister had always, like many fans, had a crush on Nick. Suddenly Adina realized why he had wanted her to sit across from him - with everybody’s eyes on her, nobody noticed him quietly guiding her through the interview, telling her what to and not to say.
“Is there a sibling rivalry living so closely to each other on the road?”
“No, not at all.” Adina said, hesitating before answering the question. “We get along great. She’s always been one of my best friends growing up. We were really close at home, too, so there really isn’t much of a difference.” She said uneasily. Joe quickly gave her a thumbs up before returning his hand to his pocket.
“That’s great. And how are things going, so far? Aside from the little microphone mishap last night, of course.”
“Oh, really good. I’m having a lot of fun. The boys are great, it’s always so much fun hanging out with them. And Cami is awesome, we’re becoming really close. Her and my sister, too.”
“That’s right, she’s opening for you guys! Congratulations, by the way. Your movie, Camp Lock, was a huge hit. 8.9 million fans watched it on opening night.”
“Yea, I heard about that. That’s amazing; who knew a movie about locksmith apprentices would be so big?”
“Well, when that same movie involves two gorgeous teen sensations with the lead roles, and there is tons of cool singing and dancing, and you throw in an adorable love story, who wouldn’t want to watch?” Joe laughed along with Lisa, and Joey snapped a few pictures to capture the moment. “Speaking of love stories,” Joe stopped laughing, but didn’t allow his smile to fade completely away. “While you two had plenty of other songs to choose from, you chose to sing Love Bug together. Any specific reason?” Joe shrugged.
“Adina thought it might mean she’d get to play the mandolin. But Kevin’s got a radar on that thing; nobody goes near it unless he has at least one hand on it.” He laughed. “No,” He shook his head. “I’m kidding. There was no real reason. It just seemed like a nice, easy song for a first performance.”
“But you’ve got to be spending tons of time together while you’re on tour. Maybe something might be sparking?” Joe smiled.
“Adina and I are good friends.” He said, his voice having a concluding edge to it. When Lisa realized she wasn’t going to get anything more out of him, she nodded and his the stop button on her recorder.
“Well,” She said. “It looks like we’re just about out of time. Thank you both, it was a great interview, and, as always, it was awesome to be with you again.”
“Thank you,” Joe smiled, standing up. “Hopefully we can get together again soon with Kevin and Nick.”
“Definitely.”
“Excuse me,” Joey said, stepping into the conversation. “About those pictures?”
“Oh,” Joe shook his head disappointedly, as if he had forgotten all about the photo shoot. “I’m sorry, we really have to get back to rehearsing. Darn, I forgot all about that! I was looking forward to it!” He exclaimed. “Great hair day.” He added with a wink. Everybody laughed, more than necessary. “Maybe next time, though?”
“Can we just get one really quick? Just right here, is good.” Joey sighed.
“Sure.” Joe nodded and crouched down a bit to be at the same level as Adina, who was still sitting in her seat in front of him. They both smiled and Joey took the picture; very casual and friendly, something that could be easily mistaken for a fan picture. It didn’t suggest anything at all, and that was exactly what Joe was going for. After a few last requests, a long mess of goodbye hugs, and Joey trying to weasel in a few more redolent photos, Joe and Adina were alone again. Joe’s excessively cheery smile had vanished, as did his easygoing good mood.
“You did good.” He said.
“I barely said anything.”
“I know. That was the point.” Joe said flatly. “We’re going to talk to Michael before this happens again. Remind me.”
“Ok,” Adina said. She was quiet for a moment. “Joe?” She finally asked quietly. He looked at her.
“What?”
“Are interviews always going to be like this? I mean, that whole thing was a complete lie. And you were just overly happy the entire time, and trying to be picture perfect.”
“Huh,” Joe chuckled. “Interviews? Girl, your entire public life is going to be like that. You’ll see.”
“That’s ridiculous.”
“Yea, well,” Joe shrugged. “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. You’ve got a rep to protect. Welcome to the wonderful world of Disney. Now come on, we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

this is kind of a filler chapter, its just setting up a bunch of things and not really relevant to much else ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 19Nick glanced up from his laptop, hearing someone knock on the door of his suite. The knocker opened it, letting themselves in, and he grinned. “You Cartell girls,” he smirked, shaking his head. “Inviting yourselves over all day today.” He closed his laptop and stood up. “That was Joe’s fault.” Adina said in defense of her sister. Nick sat down next to her. “I know; and he’s a dead man for it. Did he tell you why he was mad at me?” “Yea, you let Frankie use up all his shampoo.” Adina smirked. Nick grinned. “You should have seen it. He was running all over the suite all panicky like ‘Hair products! I need hair products!!’ It was hilarious.” He shook his head, laughing. “That would have been worth filming, you know.” Adina smiled. “I know. Youtube worthy, even.” Nick agreed with a chuckle. “Next time.” He promised. “Noelle didn’t wake you up, did she?” “No,” Nick assured her, “I was up. But I had just gotten out of the shower when she came. That was…pretty awkward.” “No way!” Adina laughed. “Yea,” Nick chuckled, looking down bashfully. “It wasn’t a huge deal, she waited in here for a few minutes while I got ready and then we hung out for a while. You could tell she’d never expected to have the door answered by Nick Jonas in a towel, though.” “Are you kidding me? A month ago she’d never even dreamed she would ever be in the very last row at one of your concerts. She probably sat there fantasizing about this happening.” Adina laughed. “That’s not disturbing at all.” “Right? She’s never going to shut up about it tonight. Don’t be surprised if I come back here to crash last minute tonight.” Nick groaned, faking aggravation. “Fine, but don’t come knocking on my door at three in the morning. Kevin’s the one with the extra bed.” He said, pointing across the room to a closed bedroom door. “Aww,” Adina smiled. “Nick and Joey share a room?” She asked, her voice high and drawn out as if she were cooing at a baby. Nick rolled his eyes. “Yes, as a matter of fact we do.” He said defensively. “Speaking of Joey, how’d it go today?” “Not horribly. I think we’re ready for tonight.” Adina paused. “Well, ok, he’s always ready. I think I’m ready for tonight.” “You’re going to be amazing. Do you not want me to sing backup, though?” “No, do it. I guess I just wasn’t expecting it last night, or something. I don’t know. But sing, please. Maybe then I can convince myself I’m singing with you instead of Joe.” Adina smirked. “We’re planning on associating with each other as little as possible without either of us getting in any more trouble. I don’t know what it is. We’ve been trying to get along. There just isn’t a connection. We manage to be politely friendly, and that’s it. But I guess that’s all we need to be.” “Well I’d gladly take Joe’s place if I could.” Nick murmured. “Oh my god, I wish you could! That’d be beyond amazing right now.” “Really?” Nick asked, grinning. “Definitely!” Adina exclaimed. “You’re the coolest kid I know!” Nick’s face fell. “Oh,” He muttered. “Thanks.” Adina frowned, noticing the anguished look in his eyes. “Hey, who’s Serena?” She asked quickly, scanning the room for something to change the subject. “Huh?” Nick asked, looking back up at her, the hurt expression turning to one of confusion. She pointed to a note sitting on the coffee table, explaining to Nick where and when to meet a girl named Serena. “Oh,” he said, shaking his head. “That’s just a friend of Cami’s. She’s coming to the show tonight and a few others this summer.” “Oohh,” Adina teased. Nick chuckled. “No,” He shook his head. “It isn’t like that. Well, sort of. They, you know, Disney, want us to get together. Like you and Joe, but not as serious. They really want you and Joe to happen. Anyways, they tried it out a few months ago when we were doing the DC Games. They had seating charts on the busses, and it worked. The day the pictures of everyone going to the Games got online, all you saw was,” Nick paused and cleared his throat. “OMJ, Nick is sitting next to Serena! They’re totally dating!!” He exclaimed in a high pitched, girly voice. Adina laughed. “But they didn’t even other to put us on the same team, so as far as I’m concerned, they don’t really care if it doesn’t work out. We’ll see, though.” “Do you like her?” “Um,” Nick shrugged shyly. “She’s cool. I don’t know.” “Uh huh. Is she pretty?” “Yea,” Nick admitted with a nod. “Uh huh,” Adina grinned. “I said we’ll see!” Nick exclaimed, trying desperately to dismiss the subject. “Why is it that every time I talk to you the conversation gets turned to my dating life?” He laughed lightly. “What about you? Some boy called your sister this morning looking for you. So who’s this Caleb guy? How old is he? How long have you known him? Is he hot? Do you like him? Does he have a sister?” Suddenly Adina’s smile disappeared and she knit her eyebrows, looking frustrated. She cursed under her breath and immediately reached for her purse. “What? Now that the table’s turned you don’t like playing 20 questions anymore?” Nick smirked. “No, it’s not that.” Adina muttered, digging through her purse. “Um, my friend; about 6 months or so older than me; my entire life; yea, cute, I guess, but ew. Brother status; and ditto.” She paused and looked away from the clutter in her bag to raise an eyebrow at Nick. “A sister? Really?” “Hey,” Nick shrugged. “Might as well get my options straight.” “Typical.” Adina rolled her eyes. “No, he’s an only child, and he’s probably pissed right now.” Nick frowned, staying silent as Adina finally found her phone and quickly dialed a number. “I was supposed to call him at lunch.” She explained while she waited for somebody to answer her call. “We made a deal that I’d call him every day. I’ve only been on this tour for ten, and already I’ve missed half of them.” “You’ve been busy.” Nick shrugged. “Still.” Adina sighed. “I feel bad, we’ve never really known anyone except each other. He always sounds so lonely when I talk to him.” When nobody answered, she dialed a new number and returned the phone to her ear. “Especially when I mention spending time with you guys.” “Sounds like somebody’s jealous!” Nick sang. Suddenly Adina held a finger to her lips. “Hi, Mr. Martin. It’s Adina…really good, we’re both having a lot of fun…oh, thanks! And I will. Is Caleb around? He wasn’t answering his cell phone…oh, he is? Um...with who?” Adina frowned as she listened. “Well, could you tell him I called?…Thanks. Tell Mrs. Martin Noelle and I say hi, ok?…Ok. Bye.” Adina hung up and stared blankly at her phone before dropping it back into her purse. “What’s going on?” Nick asked. “His dad said he went to a movie with a girl from town.” “And?” “And…I don’t know. It’s just weird.” “Weird for an 18 year old-” “19.” “19 year old boy to be on a date on a summer evening? What century are you living in?” “It isn’t a date!” Adina snapped. “Whoa,” Nick said, holding his hands up in surrender. He chuckled. “And I thought he was the jealous one!” “Jealous?” Adina laughed. “You’re kidding!” Nick didn’t respond and Adina laughed again. “That’s…ridiculous.” She said, but her smile was fading. She glanced at the clock on the microwave in the kitchen. “It’s getting late. I should go find my sister and get some dinner before we leave for the concert. I’ll see you later.” She stood up, took her purse, and left the room without another word. Nick watched her leave. “Whatever.” He muttered to himself with a quiet laugh, leaning back on the couch and picking up the remote to watch TV.

Chapter 20
Caleb stopped the car in front of a small, cozy looking house. Kat smiled at him from the passenger seat.
“Thanks Caleb, that was fun.” She said as she unbuckled her seatbelt.
“Yea, it was.” Caleb agreed. “We should hang out again soon.”
“Definitely.” Kat smiled. “I’m free all week; call me.” She said before opening her door and stepping out of the car. She waved as she pushed the door closed, and Caleb returned the gesture. He grinned as he watched her run up her walkway, pausing at the front door to unlock it. She turned to wave again once she was inside, and then she disappeared into the house. Caleb pulled away from the curb and drove down the street, turning at the corner. He swiftly turned the radio on and blissfully hummed along with every song he knew as he made his way out of the small town and into the country. Soon enough, he was pulling into his own driveway. His mom looked up when he walked into the house, closing the back door behind him.
“Did you have a good time?” She asked. Caleb smirked, walking to the refrigerator and rummaging through it for a can of pop.
“You couldn’t tell from across the parking lot, miss Nancy Drew?” He asked with an amused grin. He took a seat across from her at the kitchen table.
“Excuse me?” She asked, trying her best to sound offended. “Mrs. Cartell said she was going to the grocery store and asked me if I wanted to go along. We needed milk and bread. It isn’t my fault that the movie theater is right next door.”
“Ah, so you two just happened to be watching the door at the exact moment we were walking out. I totally understand; happens all the time.”
“I just wanted to see who she was, Caleb.” Mrs. Martin said, chuckling. “Since somebody never brings her over for us to meet.”
“We’re just friends, mom.” Caleb protested.
“Uh huh,” Mrs. Martin said skeptically. “Well, don’t you want to know what I think of her?”
“Not really.” Caleb muttered. His mom raised an eyebrow and he sighed. “Yes, mother dearest. What do you think of her? Your opinion is so very important to me right now.”
“I think,” Mrs. Martin said, ignoring her son’s cynicism, “that she looks nearly identical to Adina, and that that’s the only reason you’re spending time with her.” She looked at Caleb; the scowl on his face told her she was right. “And I disapprove.” She finished smugly.
“What?” Caleb cried. His mother shrugged.
“You asked me what I thought.”
“Well what you think is ridiculous! Kat is a very sweet, kind, and fun girl, and I see absolutely no resemblance between her and Dina.”
“Caleb, even Mrs. Cartell sees a big similarity.” Caleb knit his eyebrows and stood up, storming out of the kitchen without another word. “She called a couple of hours ago; you should call her back!” Mrs. Martin hollered after him.
Caleb went upstairs to his bedroom, closing his door behind him. He sat on his bed and picked up a popsicle stick picture frame that had been sitting on his night table. He sighed, staring at the photo glued into it. He and Adina were only about six or seven years old, sitting on the Cartell’s front porch with old newspapers spread out beneath them. They were sticking out their tongues and crossing their eyes, making the silliest faces they could manage. They each had a spoon in their hands and a large pumpkin sat between them. Orange goop was all over the paper they were sitting on, and their hands and arms were covered in it. Caleb chuckled at the bright, fluorescent clothing they both had on, noticing the pigtails tied with bright pink, glittery scrunchies and the purple jelly shoes that Adina had sworn she “couldn’t live without”. He traced his finger over the popsicle sticks, colored with neon green and blue markers. Small Scooby Doo stickers had been placed carefully around the frame, and the words ‘Best Friends Forever’ had been written in the messy, large handwriting of a child. Caleb flipped the frame over and smiled at what he saw. With each letter written in a different color, it said ‘Made by ADINA!!’ Someone, one of their parents, added the date to the bottom right corner; October 1995. Caleb returned the frame carefully to the nightstand and reached for his phone, the memories making him miss Adina more than ever. After two rings, somebody picked up.
“Hello?” The voice shouted. Caleb jerked the phone away from his ear, startled.
“Um, hi.” He said, slightly louder than he normally would have. There was tons of background noise on the other end of the line, mostly the sound of young girls’ screams. He could faintly hear a male voice singing. A girl’s voice soon joined it, and Caleb recognized it instantly. “Is Adina there?” He asked, already knowing the answer.
“No, she’s a little busy rocking out and stealing the show!” The girl exclaimed, cheering along with the crowd after. “Go Dina!!” Caleb heard her yell.
“Yea, go Dina.” He muttered, hanging up without bothering to say goodbye. He sighed and dropped the phone onto the mattress beside him. After a moment, he picked it up again and scrolled through his contacts. “You won’t be too busy to talk.” He murmured to himself as he listened to the phone ringing on the other end of the line.
“Hello?” A woman said.
“Hi, may I please speak to Katherine?” Caleb asked politely, letting the smile return to his face.

Chapter 21
The girls laughed together, stepping into the elevator as soon as the doors opened.
“That was amazing!” Cami exclaimed, pressing the button for their floor. “I’ve never seen a crowd respond like that to somebody they’ve never even heard of before! We might have to work out an encore performance for you.” She laughed. Suddenly a hand stopped the elevator doors from closing at the last moment.
“We just might.” Michael grinned, stepping inside, followed by Mrs. Jonas, Frankie, and both Cami’s and the Jonas Brothers’ bands. “Great job tonight, Adina.”
“Yes, a very great job.” Mrs. Jonas nodded.
“Thanks.” Adina smiled, shifting awkwardly to find a comfortable position to stand in the crowded elevator.
“Seriously,” Jack added, lifting Frankie onto his shoulders to make more room before continuing. “There are only a handful of times I’ve heard a crowd get that loud at one of these concerts.” Garbo smirked.
“And one of them was a couple years ago when it got so hot out that Joe’s shirt was literally drenched in sweat, so he called backstage-”
“Which, at the time, was basically just Mr. Jonas and I and a few crew members, no more than five.” Mrs. Jonas smiled, remembering the day Garbo was describing. He nodded.
“Right, so he calls backstage for a new shirt, and then changes on stage. And that’s probably the last time I’ve heard a group of girls scream that loud.” He finished.
“No, there was another.” John shook his head. “Last year, we were on the Sandra Louisiana and Riley Cyrus tour, and she kissed Nick on stage. It was just on the cheek, but those girls went crazy. And that was the last time.” He decided. “Says a lot about you, kid.” He smiled.
“It sure does.” Michael agreed, putting a proud arm around her. Before she could say anything, the doors opened onto their floor and everybody gratefully filed out of the cramped elevator. Whenever possible, everybody with the tour had their hotel rooms booked on the same floor or two, to make things simpler.
“Don’t forget everyone,” Mrs. Jonas said as the group began to disperse in their own separate ways, taking Frankie’s hand when Jack lowered him back to the ground. “We leave for San Francisco at seven tomorrow morning!”
“Meaning you’d all better be downstairs with all of your things in your bus by 6:30 at the latest!” Michael added. “We aren’t making any stops, either.”
“Yes sir, Mr. Boss Man sir!” Garbo said mockingly, saluting Michael. He rolled his eyes.
“6:30.” He repeated before turning down the corridor to walk to his room. The guys smirked and followed his lead, going their separate ways and disappearing behind various doors.
“Oh, girls?” Mrs. Jonas called as they too began walking away. They all stopped and turned. Mrs. Jonas held up a small envelope. “Nicholas forgot to get his room key out of my purse tonight, and it is way past this one’s bedtime.” She said, looking down at Frankie. He pouted. “Would one of you mind keeping an eye out for when the boys come upstairs and give it to him?” She asked.
“Sure!” Noelle replied eagerly and stepping forward to take the keycard.
“Not a problem.” Adina added and quickly stepped in front of her sister, taking the key. Cami smirked, and Mrs. Jonas chuckled to herself.
“Come on Frankie, you’re getting up early tomorrow.” She said, putting an arm around her youngest son and turning him around. “Don’t get back to your room too late, Maya; your mother is very tired tonight. Have a good night, girls!” She called over her shoulder as they walked the opposite way down the hall.
“You too!” They called back politely.
“I was going to take that!” Noelle scowled. Adina rolled her eyes.
“I was kidding; take it.” She said, holding the envelope out as she rummaged through her purse for her own key. Noelle snatched it from her.
“Hey, can I stay here for a while?” Cami asked as the sisters crowded around their door, waiting to get in. “I guess Serena’s still downstairs somewhere. I don’t want to walk all the way to the other end of the floor by myself.” Adina held the door open.
“Ugh, it’s such a long way from here!” She teased with an overdramatic sigh. “Of course you can stay.” Cami stuck her tongue out at her as she passed to go into the room, and Adina smirked.
“What are we talking about?” She asked after following Cami inside, kicking her shoes off on her way. She climbed onto her bed and sat cross-legged facing the two youngest girls.
“About how you’re out of strawberry Twizzlers!” Cami complained from where she was kneeling on the floor in front of the mini-fridge. “In my suitcase.” Noelle insisted.
“We were talking about ‘Nickelle’” Maya giggled, using air quotes around the name. Noelle blushed and gently hit Maya with the back of her hand. “What?” She asked, giggling more. “They hung out all morning!”
“It’s true, I went over there with Kevin around 11 to see if he wanted to play Guitar Hero, and she was still there.” Cami noted.
“Eat your Twizzlers.” Noelle muttered, turning redder. Adina smirked. “That doesn’t mean anything.”
“It might!” Noelle smiled. “We do have a lot in common, you have to admit.”
“Let’s see. You’re freakishly obsessed, and he’s…” Adina trailed off. Her sister threw a pillow at her.
“And he didn’t want to play Guitar Hero!” Cami exclaimed, laughing.
“Oh, that changes everything.” Adina grinned. They heard the sound of two doors closing down the hall, and of people talking just outside their door. Adina scooted to the edge of the mattress and hopped to the floor, swiping Nick’s key off the table as she sprinted to the door. “You two just let me know when the wedding is, then,” She said. She stood peered out the peephole when she got to the door and smirked. “Actually, you’d better let him know, too; he’s out there with Serena right now.”
“What?” Noelle cried, standing up.
“Whoa, did you see her face?” Maya laughed. Adina grinned.
“Relax, Noelle.” She said and unlocked the door. “Hey, get a room.” She teased, stepping into the hallway. Nick and Serena instantly pulled out of their hug and looked at her, startled. She held up the key.
“Oh, um, thank you.” Nick stammered.
“Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” Serena said, glancing up at Adina. “Are we allowed to say goodnight?” She asked mockingly. “You kind of interrupted.” Adina pretended to think about it.
“I suppose you could.” She sighed, laughing afterwards. As the two hugged again - much more quickly and awkwardly than before thanks to Nick, Adina noticed - she caught him looking at her out of the corner of his eye. She looked away.
“We’re all meeting for breakfast tomorrow; you should come.” He offered. “Both of you.” He added, glancing at Adina.
“Definitely!” Serena agreed. Nick nodded and smiled gauchely.
“Cami is waiting for you in our room.” Adina said casually, recognizing the look in Nick’s eyes.
“Oh, she is?” Serena asked. “Thanks, can you…?” She trailed off, motioning to the door. Adina unlocked it and held it open, nodding at Serena with a smile as she ducked under her arm and disappeared inside.
“Thanks.” Nick muttered once the door fell shut behind her.
“What was that all about?” Adina asked. “She’s a great girl; you don’t like her?”
“No! I do, but…” He stopped, and Adina raised an eyebrow. “We aren’t…you know, dating, or anything.”
“Never said you were!” Adina laughed. Nick rubbed the back of his neck shyly.
“I know, but…you just came out here acting like we were.”
“I was just kidding, Nick.”
“Oh.” He mumbled. “Well, I just didn’t want you to think that we were.” He said. “Or anyone. To think that we were. Dating. Because we aren’t.”
“Got’cha.” Adina smiled at his nervousness. “Not dating.”
“No.” Nick confirmed. “Not at all.”
“Ok.” Adina chuckled. “Well I’ll see you in the morning.”
“You’re coming to breakfast, right?” Adina cringed.
“We already have to be up really early.” She said. “But we’ll see.”
“Ok.” Nick smiled. “Goodnight.” He held his arms out. Adina hesitated, knowing that her sister was probably watching them from inside the room. Nick wasn’t giving up. She accepted and returned his hug as quickly as she could; he was in no hurry.
“’Night.” She said quietly before forcing her keycard into the door.

Chapter 22
Two weeks later, a wake up call shattered the silence of the hotel room. Adina groaned and rolled over in her bed, reaching blindly in the dark for the phone.
“We’re up.” She said groggily before hanging up. She plopped back onto the mattress and stared blankly at the ceiling for a few minutes before kicking her blankets off. She yawned as she sat up and slowly got out of bed. “Get up.” She muttered, jamming her knee into the mattress of the bed beside hers as she walked past it. Noelle pulled a pillow over her head.
“Five more minutes.” She pleaded, her voice muffled.
“Nick is waiting for you downstairs.” Adina tried as she knelt by her suitcase, rummaging through it for her shower things and clothes.
“Ha, ha, very funny. Not gonna work.” Noelle sighed and sat up, hugging her knees to her chest. “What time is it, anyways?” She asked. Adina turned and looked at the clock on the nightstand.
“3:30.”
“AM?” Noelle cried, reaching for her glasses so she could check the time for herself. “We didn’t even get here last night until midnight!”
“I know.” Adina said, standing up. “Life on the road; pretty great, huh?” She asked sarcastically. “I’m taking a shower.”
“Hurry up, we have to be on the bus in an hour.” Noelle reminded her. She fell back into her bed and pulled the blankets up to her chin. “Wake me up when it’s my turn.”
“Good morning, starshines!” Kevin greeted the girls when they entered the conference room that the tour had booked in the hotel for a meeting place, away from paparazzi and fans. They had to smile at his cheeriness.
“The Earth says hello!” Noelle grinned, finishing his quote. Kevin’s face lit up.
“Yes!!” He exclaimed, clapping his hands together. “She got it! Where’s Nick? Where is he?” He asked frantically looking around the room. Joe smirked. “Nick! Dude, get over here!” Kevin called, waving his brother over.
“What?” Nick asked as he trudged over to the corner of the room they were gathered in, looking like he just rolled out of bed.
“She got it! She said ‘the Earth says hello!’!” Kevin announced excitedly.
“Congrats.” Nick muttered.
“He didn’t get it.” Kevin explained.
“Yes, because when you get out of bed at 3 in the morning only to find your brother calling you starshine, your first response is going to be ‘oh, this is completely natural. Let’s join him in quoting some dumb movie!’”
“Dude, Willy Wonka is not a dumb movie.” Cami objected from where she sat perched on a table.
“Whatever.” Nick rolled his eyes.
“Willy Wonka!” Kevin exclaimed, smiling. “He did say it in Willy Wonka!” He laughed. “That was the best part! It was,” He paused and stared blankly at the space in front of him, shaking his head. “Sooo funny!” His smile grew until he was shaking in his chair with laughter, rocking back and forth and shaking his head, unable to stop laughing.
“What is he high on?” Adina smirked. Joe smiled and rolled his eyes.
“I’ve been asking myself that all summer.”
“He hasn’t slept in at least two days, and is basically living off of Red Bull.” Nick explained.
“That’s healthy.” Cami muttered.
“I could use some caffeine myself.” Noelle said. “I need coffee.” Nick added. Adina glanced at a clock hanging on the wall.
“We don’t leave for another 15 minutes. There’s a Starbucks about a block away, I saw it when we came here; if we leave now we could probably make it back in time.” The boys and Cami exchanged glances.
“Um, Dina?” Joe asked, grinning. “I don’t think we,” He said, pointing between Cami, his brothers, and himself “would make it back in time.” Adina opened her mouth to point out that it was only about a quarter after four, but then closed it. She had been with the Jonas Brothers more than long enough to figure out that time didn’t stop their fans; they were without a doubt already crowded around every entrance of the hotel, waiting.
“Fine.” She scoffed. “I’ll go if you get all my stuff of the bus by the time I get back.”
“Deal.” Joe agreed quickly, before anyone else could have a say in it.
“The usual?” Adina asked.
“Yes, please!” Joe smiled, happy that he didn’t have to go anywhere.
“Me too!” Nick nodded. “Please.”
“Cami?” Adina asked, glancing at her. She shrugged.
“I think I’ll just make some tea once we get on the bus.”
“You can have some of that.” Adina said, nodding at her sister.
“You aren’t going to get me anything?” Noelle asked, frowning.
“Noelle, you don’t drink coffee!” Adina exclaimed. Nick smirked. “I’ll be back in ten minutes, at the most.” She said.
“She said she’d get me my usual, right?” Kevin asked.
“No!” Everybody quickly responded together at the thought of him having more caffeine.
Adina closed the door behind her when she left the conference room, so that nobody who might have been standing in the hall could see who was inside. She walked swiftly to the hotel lobby. There was security standing by all of the doors leading outside; Adina had become used to the idea. She offered a smile as she walked past them to the exit. When she pushed the door open, roughly 50 pairs of eyes immediately shot toward her. They were silent for a moment, and then one girl screamed. The rest automatically followed her lead. Adina raised an eyebrow and turned, thinking one of the boys might have followed her. There was no one there, though.
“WE LOVE YOU, ADINA!!!” She heard one girl call. They swarmed toward her as she walked down the steps. Cameras flashed, and everybody was holding out posters and sharpies.
“Wow.” Adina laughed to herself, tucking her hair behind her ear as she took a pen out of someone’s hand. She quickly scribbled her name on their paper and handed the pen back. Another was promptly thrust toward her.
“Adina, can I take a picture with you?” Another girl asked.
“Um, sure.” She nodded. She smiled as the girl leaned toward her, holding her camera out and snapping the picture.
“Hey, I want a picture with her!” Somebody complained. Everybody agreed.
“Um, I really have to get going, guys.” Adina said, awkwardly laughing from the overwhelming attention.
“Hey Adina, will you go out with me?” A voice, deeper than most of the rest, called out.
“What?” She muttered to herself as somebody forced their marker into her hand. She looked over the girls’ heads while she signed the autograph and noticed for the first time that there were more boys in the crowd than she had ever seen at a Jonas event.
“You’re gorgeous, Adina!” One of them yelled. Suddenly a hand clamped down on her shoulder. She spun around to see three hotel security guards standing behind her.
“Alright, that’s enough!” One of them ordered above the noise of the crowd. They surrounded her, quickly escorting her back to the entrance.
“Sorry, miss.” One of them said, holding the door open for her. “We didn’t realize who you were.”
“Yea, neither did I.” Adina agreed. “Um, I can take it from here. Thank you.” She said when they continued walking with her inside the hotel.
“Sorry again.”
“It’s fine, really.” Adina smiled.
“Dina!” Cami exclaimed, running towards her.
“What happened? We heard screaming!” Noelle said, following Cami close behind.
“That happened.” Joe said, walking up behind them and nodding towards the fans outside. They screamed louder and he waved. A few security guards looked at him, exchanged glances, nodded, and pulled a curtain across the windows.
“Does this mean no coffee?” Nick asked, still looking half dead with exhaustion. Adina shook her head, smiling sympathetically.
“Sorry.” She said. “It was crazy out there.” She said. “Well,” She said after, thinking about it. “Crazy on my standards, not yours.”
“Yep,” Joe sighed, putting and arm around her shoulders. “It’s started.” He declared. “Adina Cartell, superstar.”

Chapter 23
“Alright; love you too; bye.” Noelle said. She stood up and hopped over suitcases laying open on the floor, heading for the door. She flipped the latch on the wall lock to stop the door from closing all the way before knocking on the door across the hall and two rooms over. Cami opened it, clad in her Spongebob pajamas with half a Twizzler in her mouth. She yanked it out, swallowing the piece that broke off.
“Finally.” She said, stepping aside to let Noelle in. The sound of the TV could be clearly heard.
“I wanted to thank you for the beautiful drawing you did of me. It’s hanging in my bedroom.”
“Really? It took me three hours to finish the shading on your upper lip. It’s probably the best drawing I’ve ever done.”
“You’re missing the whole movie.” Cami said.
“She hates this movie.” Adina called, glancing at the doorway from where she was laying on one of the beds in the room, staring at the screen with her head hanging upside-down over the edge. Noelle rolled her eyes and held up her cell phone.
“Mom.” She said. Adina groaned and held an arm out. Still watching the TV from the chair beside the bed, Kevin grabbed her hand and pulled her to a sitting position.
“Want us to pause it for you?” Nick asked, looking up at her from the floor with the remote obediently in hand. Adina shook her head.
“Nah, thanks, though.” She said as she slid off the bed. She tugged the bottom of her pajama shirt down and walked to the doorway, taking the phone as her sister held it out to her.
“Now come on, you will watch this with us.” Cami said, grabbing Noelle’s wrist and pulling her farther into the room.
“Why?” Noelle whined. Adina smirked and watched as she trudged along behind Cami.
“You’ve seriously never seen this?” She heard Joe ask.
“It’s a stupid movie.”
“That’s the point!” Nick argued. Adina smiled and let the door fall closed behind her. She lifted the phone to her ear.
“Hey, mom.” She said.
“Hi, honey! How are you?” The sound of her mother’s voice made her smile, even though it had only been a day since she heard it last. “Great. We had the day off today.” She said, going back into her own room.
“So I’ve heard. Your father over here is pretty jealous of you guys being at that Yankees game.” Mrs. Cartell laughed.
“Noelle told you about that already? She didn’t even go!” Mrs. Cartell laughed again.
“She didn’t have to; word got out that two of the Jonas Brothers and Adina Cartell were there within an hour after the game started.” She said. “Perez has been all over any piece of ‘Jodina’ he can get lately.”
“I knew I should have sat on the other side of Nick!” Adina rolled her eyes. Her mother chuckled.
“Yea, well, that’s just part of the fame, right?”
“I’m not that famous, mom. It’s only been a month or two.”
“Exactly a month today, isn’t it? August fourth?” Mrs. Cartell pondered. “And you’re getting there, Dina. I read somewhere that already you’ve brought up Disney’s male audience five percent. They’ve been trying to do that for a long time with all those goofy little cartoons and that show with those two boys, what are their names? The ones who live in the hotel? Anyways, there was a whole article about it online.” She said. “And everyone in town is getting really excited; I’ve had people come up to me in the store to ask how you’re doing. Caleb said that a girl about your sister’s age asked to take a picture with him, just because he knew you! Oh, Adina, you wouldn’t believe how many people around here have been trying to get Jonas tickets now. There are articles about what you’ve been doing in the newspaper every week, and posters of you tacked to lampposts, right over the ads for babysitters and lost dogs!”
“Wow.” Adina laughed.
“And there are new videos of you and the boys performing every night on the computer; have you seen all the nice comments people have been leaving on them?”
“No, I haven’t been online in forever.” Adina admitted.
“Well they just love you!” Mrs. Cartell exclaimed. She was silent for a moment, and then sighed. “I’m so proud of you, Adina.” She said. Adina smiled.
“Thanks, mom.”
“I can’t believe how much you’ve done in the past month. You’d better thank the Jonas family for helping you, you know. They’ve done a lot.”
“Yea,” Adina smiled. “I know.” She heard whispering in the hallway and glanced to the door. “Um, mom?” She asked. “I have to go, I’ll call you tomorrow on our way to Baltimore.” She promised. After they said goodbye and hung up, she slid off the bed and walked to the other side of the room. Seconds before she reached the door, somebody knocked. She turned the handle and pulled the door open, jumping back in surprise when she did.
“Heeey, Dina.” Cami grinned, camera in hand.
“Hey guys.” She replied suspiciously, glancing at the camera, not knowing whether she should smile at it or not. “What are you doing?”
“Youtube video.” Nick said simply.
“It’s not on yet.” Kevin said. “And I’m filming.” He added, reaching for the camera.
“Well then I get to film you guys.” Cami insisted, giving in and letting him take the camera. Down the hall, a door fell closed and moments later Joe appeared, hugging a pile of clothes to his chest.
“I got the stuff!” He said.
“What stuff?” Adina asked.
“We’re gonna be the Jonas Brothers.” Maya smirked.
“And you’re going to remind everyone that our album comes out when?” Joe asked, pushing past Adina into the room and dropping the clothes on her bed.
“August 12.” Adina replied.
“Right, and how many more days is that?” Nick tested.
“Eight!” Cami smiled, following Joe into the room. “I get to be Nick!” She laughed, picking a striped button-down shirt and a skinny tie out of the pile. “How’s my Nick J face?” She asked, turning to Nick and making her smile vanish, shooting him a death glare to go along with it. He smirked.
“Needs some work.” He said, giving her his infamous look. Maya grabbed a scarf and put it around her neck, finding a jacket and sunglasses to go with it.
“Does this mean I’m Frankie?” Noelle asked.
“You could be an obsessed fan with us.” Nick shrugged.
“Or you can be Joe, I don’t care.” Adina said. Joe smiled innocently. “Now do we think Michael would approve of that?” He asked. Adina rolled her eyes.
“Probably not.” She agreed. Joe handed her white pants, a light purple tank top, a blue shirt to go over it, his famous red Ray-bans, and a hat.
“Very colorful.” She commented.
“Now what should we wear?” Kevin asked.
“We get to decide?” Cami asked. Nick nodded. The girls exchanged glances, grinning devilishly.
The girls all looked up, hearing the bathroom door open. Maya was the first to burst out laughing.
“Does this make me look fat?” Nick asked, tugging at the bottom of his Jonas shirt.
“Aww, it’s going to be all stretched out now!” Noelle complained.
“We can get you a new one.” Kevin said, emerging into the room.
“Is that Sandra Louisiana?” Adina laughed, eyeing his t-shirt.
“This one kept it from when we went on tour with her.” Kevin nodded, gesturing to Maya.
“No way, you two need to switch, right now.” Cami demanded.
“Me?” Nick exclaimed.
“Definitely. Give him a wig, too.” Adina added. “And then you have to be completely obsessed with Cami when she’s you in the video.”
“No way, and get a whole thing started about how I was making fun of her or whatever?”
“Oh please, do you know how easily you could deny that?” Maya laughed.
“Seriously; your name is Nick Jonas. You could be seen walking out of a bar at three in the morning with a hooker on each arm, say you were only there to host a charity to save the polar bears, and the entire underage population of the world would defend you for it.” Noelle said.
“She speaks the truth.” Kevin shrugged, grinning. Before Nick could rebuttal, Joe stepped out of the bathroom with the halter top of a dress around his neck. Cami whistled. Kevin smirked and gasped mockingly.
“Nicholas!” He scolded. “Stop checking out the fans!”
“I don’t know,” Nick shook his head. “I think he has the right to.” He said, smiling at Cami. “She’s looking pretty hot.” He laughed, pointing at Joe.
“Ha, ha.” Joe rolled his eyes. “I couldn’t get it over my hips,” He frowned, turning back to the girls. Adina laughed.
“What hips?”
“Well compared to these two…” He scoffed, pointing between Nick and Kevin.
“No, I think Kevin might have you on that one.” Cami contradicted, eyeing the two.
“Well…whatever!” Joe exclaimed. “The point is the dress doesn’t fit. But it ties in the back, right?”
“No, actually this one ties in the front, but that’s fine. Come here.” Adina said. Joe walked to where she was sitting and turned.
“Dude, really! Why are you laughing?” He asked, catching Nick smirk as she tied the strings around his waist.
“I can’t tie this if you keep moving, Joe.”
“I was the only one of you guys man enough to fully dress the part!” He exclaimed.
“Um, Josephina? If the question is who out of us is the bigger man, I’d like to point out that Nick and I are wearing pants.” Kevin laughed.
“Whatever, dude.” Joe said, crossing his arms across his chest. Adina rolled her eyes.
“Questioning why you ever agreed to spend the summer with us?” Nick smirked.
“It definitely is an,” She paused, finishing up the bow as she thought of the right word. “Experience.” She decided with a smile. “You’re done.” She told Joe, tapping the small of his back. He stepped away and turned to face everyone.
“How do I look?” He asked. Noelle and Cami already had cameras out, taking pictures.
“Can I put your hair in pigtails?“ Maya asked, standing up and crossing the room for a brush. He glanced at Adina questioningly. She chuckled.
“Gorgeous.” She nodded.

ive been neglecting my updates on this site hehe. i decided to just completely get rid of the release party here and just leave it up on the other site since it was specially written for the k2 crew ill start posting everything that came AFTER that soon, but first im gonna go sparknotes on you with the parts of the party that are important to the story as a whole: Chapter 24They (all the performers on the tour including the band, Noelle, Serena, Papa J, and a few execs) are getting ready to leave - Serena is being flirty with Nick, he's trying to be flirty with Adina, everyone else is noticing. They all head over to Time Square to buy the first copy of A Little Bit Longer, its packed and just as crowded when they get to the place holding the release party. In the car going back and forth from the hotel/Time Square JB has a car to themselves, and the talk is just girls, girls, girls. Kevin is nonstop texting his secret girlfriend Dani who is already at the party site, Nick kinda teases him about it, but it makes Joe upset because his girlfriend Maria wasn't going to be at the party. His brothers try to console him but basically fail because they can't hide their hatred of her too well (Nick references Video Girl), and Joe brings his own mood up by remembering that he will see her in 11 days at their concert in Milwaukee. The attention turns to Nick, and his brothers make fun of him for crushing on every girl he sees. He denies it, they mimic him flirting with Adina and then Serena as soon as she turns her back. Joe says he'd be better off with Serena, since she obviously likes him too and Adina can't get over the thought of Nick being a 'kid'. Nick claims that he likes Serena but 'loves' Adina, which makes the teasing worse, reminding Nick of the times he had been 'in love' before. He claims he's older and more mature now, and his brothers go along with it. Nick asks Joe if the reason he wants him to get with Serena is because Joe likes Adina, and Joe quickly denies it, laughing at the idea. Nick continues to ask him, not wanting to start a feud between them. Joe insists he has no feelings for Adina, and encourages Nick to go for it, "If he can get her to look at him as any more than a cute little baby" Chapter 25Leaving Time Square. Boys discuss how huge the turnout was, comparing it to New Years Eve. Everyone goes to the party, and security picks 100 fans from the crowd outside the building to attend. Kevin makes sure that Dani is among the girls chosen. Chapter 26The party starts, your typical Disney party - music, dancing, food, all the Disney Channel stars, etc. There is a little bit of time before the fans and media are let in, and everybody except Adina quickly spots old friends and rushes to greet each other. Mandy is there, a surprise to the boys since she said she wouldn't be able to make it. Nick and Kevin introduce her to Adina. The fans and press are let in, and the boys, with some other big stars, hold a quick autograph signing before the agreed time comes when all cameras have to be turned off. Adina is alone at a table, while everyone else is running around frantic to get near a Jonas. A reporter from a teen magazine joins her for a few questions. As soon as she realizes Adina isn't going to give any hints to the story behind the rumored "Jodina", she stops caring and leaves. As soon as she's gone, Noelle hurries over to her sister and announces that Caleb had called her because he couldn't reach Adina on her phone, again. Adina asks to use Noelle's phone to call him back, but she refuses, saying Caleb had gone to bed. Adina asks what he said, and Noelle said he just asked if she was with Joe, to which she replied, "Don't worry; she's still yours". This confused Adina, but Noelle just shrugged and said that Caleb knew what she meant. Chapter 27Nearly all fan interaction. With all the attention on JB and the other more popular Disney stars, Adina joins Mandy at her table. It is clear that she is in a bad mood, and Mandy questions her about it. She simply asks in response, "How do you do it?" She goes on to say how JB were so happy to see her, and Mandy quickly catches on that she was having problems with friends back home. Adina goes into a long rant about Caleb, and how she completely failed to keep her promise to call him every day, about him hanging out with Kat and that it bothered her, though she didn't know why, how it's been so long since she's seen him. She complains about being followed by paparazzi and fans everywhere she goes because she knows the Jonas Brothers, how the only attention she ever gets is centered around her supposedly dating Joe, etc. Mandy comforts her, telling her that it is hard but friendships can be maintained. Nick suddenly joins them, curious as to what is going on. Mandy covers up the problems, saying that they were just talking about 'girl stuff'. Nick forgets about it and tells Adina he wants to show her something. She goes with him, and finds herself following him up the stairs to the roof of the building. They are instantly faced with Kevin and Dani being just about as intimate as you can get with a purity ring, and they are too occupied to notice or care about the extra company. Nick and Adina go to the other side of the roof to be alone, keeping their voices low so that the fans on the ground below don't notice them. Nick tries to get close to Adina, but she gets uncomfortable and tries to subtly get him away from her. He gets frustrated and bluntly asks him why she doesn't like him. Kevin and Dani suddenly announce that they are leaving, not wanting to be around for the awkward situation. Adina tries to play dumb, insisting that Nick is one of her best friends on the tour. Nick accuses her of not liking him the way he loved her. Adina gives up on beating around the bush, and points out to him that he is 3 years younger than her; the same age as her little sister. He quickly comes back saying that she is the same age as his older brother and that he'd give it a chance if she would. He asks for just one chance. When he sees that she wasn't going along with it, he changes his end of the deal, and pleads for one chance, not now, but someday. She sighs and tells him that they were friends and she didn't want that to change. He took her not refusing as a sign that she was agreeing with him, and ended the conversation happily, stating that "Nick Jonas doesn't give up for anything". Suddenly Joe emerges onto the roof with his cell phone. Adina acts excited to see him because he is a diversion from Nick, and Joe is confused and annoyed at her enthusiasm. He states that he is just calling Maria. Adina follows him to the edge of the roof (there is a wall there) and Nick follows her, leaving his own phone on the bench that they had been at. Joe is talking to Maria when Nick's phone rings. He runs to silence it. The loud noise caught the attention of a fan below, and she shouts for everyone else to look up. Joe panics and turns to get out of their sight. Frustrated that Adina is still just standing there, he grabs her hand and pulls her away from the wall, quickly releasing his grasp on her when he realizes that thanks to the gesture, pictures of "Jodina" "holding hands" would surface on the internet the next morning. He gets angry with Adina for this, and she goes back down to the party. Chapter 28Pretty much fan interaction.
