This was the life, sitting on a blow up chair, floating in the middle of a deep, cold pool, on an extremely hot day.
I sighed, and put my head back to rest on the damp clear plastic of the chair.
Pushing my sunglasses over my eyes, I relaxed into the chair, and started to fall asleep.
This setting would have been perfect; nothing could have possibly gone wrong, if I was anywhere else.
But, no. Today I was at the house none other than the master of Fun, Jokes and Danger.
Mr. Joe Jonas.
CANNON BALL!
I braced myself, gripping onto the sides of the inflatable chair as Joe jumped into the pool, causing a miniature tsunami.
“Phew!” He cried, resurfacing from the water, his dark hair clinging to the sides of his face, which now had a grin on it the size of Africa.
“THAT WAS AWESOME!”
“Joe, do you think you could tone it down a bit?” I asked, trying to be serious, but I was grinning now too.
“Aha!” He yelled,
“You Smiled! That means you loose!”
“Loose what? I asked, hopping off the chair and dipping my shoulders into the icy yet quite refreshing water.
“The contest that I made up in my head!” Laughed Joe.
Sighing, I climbed out of the Jonas’s pool, and sat down on the warm concrete that ran around it.
“So where are the others? I thought they’d be here by now”
“Oh, I got changed at top speed” Said Joe, as he paddled over to the chair I had been trying to relax on a moment ago.
A few seconds later, we were joined by 3 other boys, who were all racing to the pool, inflatables in hand.
“Whoa, guys, slow down, do you really wanna break your backs just before summer?”
“No Mom,” Replied the youngest of the boys.
Good ol’ Frankie, he’d known me since he was born, so he just called me Mom.
It was easier for him to remember I guess.
“IZZY!” Nick cried as he jumped into the pool, coming up for a breath he swam over to the edge and said quietly,
“Hi”
“Hi ‘fro” I replied, grinning as he turned a light shade of tomato.
“Do you have to call me that?”
“Always” I smiled as I watched him paddle away.
“Hey guys, I’ve got to go now,” I said, glancing at my watch
“Mom wants me to help cook dinner tonight for when you guys come over for dinner”
“Aww,” Frankie whined, why do YOU have to help?
“Because, Frank, we need to cook loads; Mom knows how you guys feel about food”
I opened the gate, still grinning as I waved goodbye to them.
“See ya tonight!”
“Bye Iz!”
“Later!”
“Bye Mom!”
I smiled to myself. If anyone could make me smile, it was the Jonas’s.
They were my best friends, Like family,
Like brothers.
