“This is so cool!” Kevin exclaimed, looking through everything on the bus. Yes, I said the bus. As in the tour bus. As in the Jonas Brothers were officially signed with Hollywood Records and now, just months after, were going on a cross-country tour with singing siblings, Aly and AJ Michalka. And this time I was coming with. It took a bit of persuasion to convince my parents that even though I would be missing a lot of school, I would stay caught up with my work and blah, blah, blah. It wasn’t too hard actually; all it took was my best puppy dog eyes and a well practiced ‘do you really want to separate a girl from her brothers, her best friends in the whole wide world, who she loves and cares about? It would be just absolutely devastating if I couldn’t see them again, really. Scarred for life.’ And it definitely didn't hurt that I had Nick Joe and Kevin surrounding me, throwing in a few hugs and various ‘we would miss her so much’ type statements. Plus Joe went as far as bringing up the whole twin thing, claiming it would be like half of him was gone if I didn't come. At that point mom and dad finally gave up, realized they couldn’t win, and agreed that I should tag along.
“But I’ll be talking to the tutor every day, and if I find out that you are falling behind in
anything, you’re coming straight home. Understood?” Mom was big on my education, worried that with this whole touring thing I wouldn’t be able to keep up. And since she was staying here with Frankie, I guess she was double worried.
“Totally, this is going to be great!” I said, turning to the brother nearest to me, Nick, and hugging him.
Anyways, like I said, we were on the bus, on our way to the first stop, New York City, where we’d be meeting with the girls.
“Isn’t this so much better than that little thing we were on for our last tour?” Joe asked, opening and closing everything he could, cabinets, drawers, anything.
“Definitely, that thing wasn’t even really a bus, more like a van.” Kevin agreed.
“Hollywood poned Columbia big time.” Nick added. We laughed and talked for the next few hours, until we finally stopped in the parking lot of a hotel.
“Looks like they beat us here.” My dad said, pointing out another bus parked on the other side of the lot. We went through the back door to avoid possibly being attacked by screaming girls. After our dad got us checked in and made sure everything was settled, we were shown to a small lounge reserved for everyone on the tour. When we walked in, there were tons of people, between backup dancers, stage managers, bus drivers, parents, and of course, the stars themselves, but we noticed Aly and AJ right away sitting on a couch in a far corner of the room chatting about something that they made look really interesting. We walked over to them while dad went to talk to some other people and they looked up, coming out of their own little world almost in shock. Aly smiled.
“Hey! We’re so glad you guys are coming! I’m Alyson, and this is Amanda.” She said, standing to shake our hands.
“Joe, Nick, and Kevin.” Joe said, pointing to each of them. “And this is our sister, Rebecca.”
“Awesome, nice to meet you!” Aly said, moving over and motioning for us to sit. Well she seems nice I guess.
“So how cool is this tour going to be?” AJ said excitedly, speaking for the first time.
“I know! We can’t wait!” Nick agreed.
“Yea, who
wouldn’t be excited to go on tour with Aly and AJ?” Joe smiled, looking at AJ, who was sitting next to him. I knew that face, same old Joe, flirting with girls he just met.
“Boys, come here for a minute, someone wants to talk to you.” My dad called from across the room. My brothers got up, leaving me along with the Michalka sisters.
“So Rebecca, you and Joe are twins, right?” Aly asked, turning to face me.
“Yea, just a few minutes apart.” I replied.
“So…does that mean you two are like super close or something?” AJ asked, eyeing me…suspiciously?
“Yea…all of us are really close…” I told her, nodding slowly, trying to figure out what she was up to. Aly smiled, ignoring the look on her younger sister’s face.
“That’s cool, me and AJ are like that too. You guys have another brother too, right? Frankie?” She’d obviously put a little effort into learning about our family before the tour, and seemed to be genuinely interested. I nodded, starting to become more comfortable with them. Aly anyways.
“Frank the Tank.” I said, laughing. “He’ll be turning six this September.” Aly laughed too.
“Frank the Tank, that’s cute. I saw a picture of him online, he’s adorable!” She said. AJ, still giving me that look, interrupted.
“Uh…Aly I need to talk to you about…that…thing.” She said.
“What thing?” Aly asked. AJ widened her eyes, probably trying to signal her sister to play along.
“You know, the thing! Come on.” She insisted, grabbing Aly’s arm and dragging her away. Aly looked back at me as she left, shrugged and mouthed ‘sorry.’ I nodded, watching them leave. There’s something up with that girl. And I don’t like it.
