Chapter nine - Epilogue
I looked at myself in the full length mirror; I smiled as I ran my hands over the crystals that were on my dress, my wedding dress. It had been four years since I had talked my real dad in the jail, and a year since Kevin had proposed. I tugged on a loose curl from my updo, and made sure that the tiara was straight when dad walked in.
"Wow," he said, closing the door behind him.
"Really?" I asked, looking at him through the mirror.
"Absolutely, darling," he said in his British accent, which always sounded so out of place.
"Is it filling up out there?" I asked, turning around to face him in his new black tux.
"Yeah. Everyone's ready," he smiled.
I fixed my veil so that it was behind me, "I can't even believe this is happening."
He pushed the curl behind my ear, "I can."
I giggled as he put his arm out for me to take, I did and he led me to the door, where I would be joined by the best men - Kevin couldn't choose between his brothers -, Joe, Nick and Frankie. And the groomsmen, Shawn, Garbo, John and Jack, and Doug as the ring bearer. Then there were my maid's of honor, Joe's girlfriend aka, my best friend Melissa, another friend Jane, and Susan, then my bridesmaid's, Laura, Mags, Joan, and Rebecca, and Joan's daughter - my goddaughter - Cindy as flower girl. The bridesmaid's each were wearing knee length wine colored dresses with a black ribbon going across their waists. The maid's of honor were in floor length wine colored dresses, each with little bouquets of lilies. The boys, of course, were all in black tuxes. I looked around the familiar Wyckoff, New Jersey church, were Paul used to be the Pastor, it was right beside the old Jonas house. There was no question in our minds about where we were going to get married; we met in Wyckoff, that was where we had to get married.
"Alright, alright, we're starting," our wedding planner, Sam, said in a loud whisper.
Everyone was getting in place with the person they were walking down the aisle with, just before the doors opened, Joe looked behind at me and gave me two thumbs up, which made me smile. The doors opened and heads turned to look at everyone, everyone began walking down the aisle slowly, I really wanted them to hurry up, I hadn't seen Kevin since the rehearsal dinner the night before, so I was a bit anxious to see him.
"Ready?" dad asked, when I heard 'here comes the Bride,' starting up, and people standing up.
"I've never been more ready for anything," I said smiling up at him.
He smiled back as Sam ushered us up, we walked out arm in arm and I saw my family and friends, and Kevin’s too. But then I saw the only person I really wanted to see right then, standing all the way at the front of the church black tux, curly hair styled, and feet clad in his infamous boots, Kevin Jonas. My future husband. He looked up from his hands when he heard the music begin playing and I was walking down the aisle, and smiled, and I started to cry a little. It was as if everyone but Kevin and I disappeared, we kept our eyes glued to each other. We made it up and dad gave my hand to Kevin, then lifted my veil so he could kiss my cheek, then put it back down, and stood behind us, waiting to give me away.
"You look beautiful," Kevin whispered in my ear.
"I love you," I whispered.
"I love you," he whispered back.
He stood up straight still holding my hand, but never letting the smile leave his face. All I could think about was when he proposed to me.
He had been nervous all that day, I thought he was just jittery because he had his birthday coming up soon, we were in L.A., just out for a walk, but he wouldn't take my hand.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"What? Oh yeah, I'm fine," he said.
"Are you nervous about your birthday?" I asked, looking up at him.
"I'm only turning twenty four," he said, looking down at me.
I laughed, "Yeah, but you might have been having a mid life crisis thing."
He chuckled a bit, "No, I'm fine, I was just thinking, do you ever think about the future?"
"Of course I do, why?" I asked.
"I was just thinking..." he trailed off.
I grabbed his arm and pulled him to stand in front of me, to look me in the eyes, "What's wrong?"
"Take my hand," he said, pulling his right hand out of his pocket.
"I've only been trying to do that all day," I said taking it with my left, but felt something cold.
He slipped his hand out of my grasp; I opened my hand and saw a ring there. A white gold ring with a diamond in the center.
"If you don't like, we can go back to the place and get a new one, I still have the blue box from Tiffany's at home,-"
"Kevin, just ask me the question," I said impatiently.
He smiled and got down on one knee in the middle of the sidewalk, "Cara Lucy Whitney, I love you with all my heart, will you marry me?"
"Yes!" I yelled and tackled him in a hug, which was eagerly returned.
"I'm gonna do this right, so, let me put the ring on your finger," he said, so I handed him the ring, while we were both still on our knees on the sidewalk.
"Kevin, you didn't even need the ring," I stated, which made him smile.
He slipped it on my left hand finger, then took my hand and kissed it; I grabbed the collar of his shirt and brought him down to me so I could kiss him. "Cara, you may go first with your vows," the priest told me.
I smiled widely at Kevin before I started, "I've known you and your family for most of my life, I was in the park when we all first met, you threw a little bouncy ball at my head, because you were too nervous to come up to me yourself. Who would have thought that that little boy would become such an amazing man. The man that I want to spend the rest of my life with. You helped me through so much stuff during my life, then I left and didn't see you or your family for over three years. And when I did see you guys again, I was so happy. And when I realized I was in love with you, Kevin, I was even happier. You will never know how much I love you. I'll love you for the rest of my life," he started to cry a little during my little speech.
"Cara, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?" the priest asked.
"I do," I said, keeping my gaze with Kevin.
"It's your turn now," the priest said, turning to Kevin.
He smiled at me before he started, "I think I've been in love with you since I met you. I was so nervous to talk to you that day in the park, because I thought you were really cute, and wouldn’t have wanted to talk to me. That cute little girl turned into a beautiful women, the women I want nothing more then to be with forever. You have helped me in more ways then anyone will ever know. When you left, I realized how strong my feelings were, and I was so scared that I would never be able to tell you them. When we found each other, everything fell into place. I knew what I felt all those years was real, and they'll be real for the rest of my life. You will never know how much I love you. I'll love you for the rest of my life," he never tore his gaze away from mine; I knew I was crying then.
"Paul, do you take this women to be you lawfully wedded wife?" he asked Kevin.
"I do," he echoed me.
We exchanged rings, and I started laughing lightly, which I did when I was overly happy.
"You may kiss the bride," the priest said.
Kevin pulled me to him lifting the veil away from my face and putting it over my head, and our lips came together for a gentle kiss. We were in church after all.
"It is my honor to present to you, for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kevin Jonas the second," the priest said after we pulled apart, and the church exploded into applause. We laced our finger together and walked down the aisle. Heading to our limo to take us to our reception.
"And now it's time for the husband and wife to share their first dance as a married couple," the DJ announced. Kevin and I got up from our seats and went to the middle of the dance floor, our wedding song, 'You and Me,' by Lifehouse starting playing, I rested my hand on Kevin's shoulder, and his was on my waist, our hand clasped together. He brought our joined hands to rest against his chest.
"Can you believe it?" he asked.
"I can't believe I’m now married to the love of my life," I told him.
"Neither can I," he said.
"You will never know how happy you make me," I said and looked up at him.
He kissed the top of my head, "I think I have some idea."
My dad came over a minute or so later, asking to cut in, which Kevin graciously let him, he then went over to his mom, and led her to the dance floor.
"Are you happy?" he asked, with a knowing smile.
I looked over in Kevin's direction, I caught his eye and he gave me a wink, "Without a doubt."

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray, you'll never know dear, how much I love you. So please don't take my sunshine away," I sang as I cradled our two and a half year old daughter in my lap.
"Mama, the baby kicked me," Peyton squealed looking at me, over my swollen belly.
I laughed as I stroked her long curly blond hair, "Did it?"
"I think the baby likes your singing," she told me.
I laughed and continued to hum the tune. Kevin and I had been married for almost four years. We were unbelievably happy, with the arrival of Peyton Ella Jonas; it made everything that much better. We were still living in L.A., but we frequently went back to New Jersey for vacations. We lived in a gorgeous two story - plus basement - house, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, not too far from Joe and his wife Melissa and Nick and his girlfriend Samantha. My parents and Doug lived about ten minutes away, same with Denise Paul and Frankie. Shawn lived down in Malibu, but was on his honeymoon now with his wife Sandra. I was nine months pregnant with our second baby, like with Peyton, we chose not to know what we were having. We liked the surprise.
"Pey, look," I said pointing into the kitchen from where we were sitting in the living room.
"What?" she asked, sitting up as straight as she could.
"It's daddy, go and surprise him," I said, gently taking her off my lap.
She tried to stifle her giggles as she ran into the kitchen, got a hold of Kevin's left leg and let all the laughter out. Kevin began laughing as he picked her up and twirled her around, bringing her back out into the living room.
"Daddy, guess what!" she said while he was still holding her.
"What?" he asked, sitting beside me, placing her on his lap, and leaning over to kiss my belly, then me.
"The baby kicked me!" she told him like it was best thing in the world.
"Really?" he asked in mock shock.
She nodded, her blond curls bouncing, "What do you think that means?"
"I think that your little brother or sister was just saying hello," he told her.
Her eyes lit up, "Daddy, sing the hello song!"
"The hello song?" he asked confused, scratching his own curly head.
"I think she means Hello Beautiful," I supplied.
"Oh. I see, well, if you insist," he said, taking Peyton off his lap and going to his office to get his guitar. Kevin and his brothers were still doing the music thing, after I hit the eighth month; they decided to wait to tour until after the baby was at least six months, so that me, the baby and Peyton could all go out on tour with them again. Peyton loved going on tour, she was already showing signs of musical ability, Kevin had taught her some chords, and Joe and Nick were teaching her how to sing.
"Alright, here we go," he said, coming back with an acoustic guitar, and sitting back where he was. Peyton sat on the floor, with the look of amazement she always got whenever she saw Kevin play and sing.
"Hello Beautiful
How’s it going
I hear it’s wonderful
In California,"
"Ow!" I shouted, grabbing my belly.
"I know I'm not the best singer, but am I really bad enough to cause pain?" Kevin asked.
"No, Kev. You know I love your - ah - voice, but I need to go to the hospital now," I told him, attempting to stand up.
Kevin laid his guitar on the ground and helped me up.
"Mama, what's wrong?" Peyton asked, hiding behind Kevin's legs.
"I think Mama's gonna have the baby soon," I told her.
I slipped a pair of vans on, while Kevin got Peyton ready with a jacket and shoes, he grabbed the bag and keys and led us out of the house and to his Jeep.
"Never again!" I yelled.
"That's what you said with Pey," Kevin said from beside me.
"But it - ah - hurts," I complained.
"But it'll be worth it," he said taking my hand, not even flinching while I squeezed.
"One more push," our doctor told me.
"1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10," Kevin counted as I continued to push.
Then I heard it, the most wonderful sound in the world, our baby was crying. Then I started to cry. I didn't cry during the five hours of labor, but I cried knowing that the baby was alright.
"It's a boy," the doctor told us. That made me cry more. Kevin went over to cut the cord and everything, then came back over to me, tears in his own eyes, and sat beside me on the edge of the bed. They brought our son over wrapped in a blue blanket, his eyes were open and he was looking around everywhere.
"Do we have a name yet?" the nurse asked us.
"Noah Luke Jonas," Kevin answered without hesitation. We had names picked out already for when the baby was born.
Noah lifted a hand out of the blanket and began reaching for Kevin, he put one of his fingers out for Noah to take, which he did.
"Can we come in?" Joe asked, already walking into the room, holding Peyton, behind them were Nick, Denise, Paul, Frankie my parents, and Doug.
"Uncle Joe! It's the baby, that's the one that kicked me!" Peyton exclaimed when she saw Noah.
"Are you sure it's the same baby?" he asked.
She looked at me and Kevin, "Is that the same baby?" she asked us.
Kevin laughed, using one arm to reach for her, "That's the same baby; this is your little brother Noah."
She poked his nose, and we all braced ourselves for the screams but they never came, instead, Noah looked up at her, took his hand away from Kevin's finger, and began making a grabbing motion to Peyton, who immediately put her own finger out.
"He is so adorable," Denise cooed.
"I'm so proud of you, congratulations," my mom said, coming over to the bed to hug Kevin and me.
"Congrats, big sis," Doug said, walking over.
"Thanks little bro," I said, high fiving him.
Noah looked up at Kevin, Peyton and I, and I swear he smiled at us.
"I love you, so much," Kevin told me.
"I love you," I echoed.
Everyone began chattering happily, taking pictures, and passing Noah around for everyone to hold. My life had done such a turn around from when I was younger; I didn't think I would ever have what I have. An amazing husband, two beautiful kids, and a fantastic family. I'm pretty sure I was the luckiest women in the world. As I bent down to Noah after he was given back to me by Nick to kiss his forehead, my guitar pick necklace came out and Noah grabbed it and tugged.
"Already going for the guitar pick, he definitely is a Jonas," Nick said, while we laughed.
Then I knew I was the luckiest women in the world.
