Chapter 1: Welcome to my life ----------------------------------------------------------- “Blair Hurry up! The plane leaves in 2 hours!” My mom shouted from downstairs.
“Ugh.. Coming!” I yelled back. It was way to early for me to be up. I got out of bed, threw on a pair of Victoria Secret sweatpants, a tank top and my Uggs and drug my luggage downstairs.
My mom planned this so called ‘family vacation’ a few months ago. She thought it would be a good family bonding experience to spend winter break thousands of miles away from our small Texas suburb. Well, lucky for me, we were going to the Bahamas. Atlantis to be exact. And I was planning on spending time alone, relaxing, getting a tan and sipping pina coladas. Not worrying about my high-strung mother or my annoying little sister Ali.
My parents divorced when I was 9 years old, and Ali was only 4. My dad left my mom for another woman, and moved to Chicago to live with his ‘new family.’ I hardly ever talked to him anymore, and stopped visiting him for Christmas.
So this year it would just be me, my Mom, and Ali.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once we got to the airport and were waiting to depart I sat down across the room from my mom and sister flipping through a magazine. I saw my mom get up and walk over to a man and his semi good-looking son.
“Blair, Ali, you guys remember Mr. Keller and Grayson, right?”
Oh, did I forget to mention my mom invited one of her co-workers with us on this trip without telling us? And that he was bringing his son?! Yeah. My mom is just THAT crazy.
“Yeah, of course I do.” I fake smiled. “Nice to see you again, Grayson.” I lied, trying not to sound too sarcastic.
I met Grayson at one of my moms’ work parties around this time last year. He had a huge crush on me back then. Although he did grow up a bit and get his braces off, he was still the dorky kid I remember him to be.
“This was just so sweet of you to invite us on this trip last minute, Lisa. I thought we’d be stuck at home all break with nothing to do! And Blair-you sure have grown up.” Mr. Keller said.
“Well-it has been a year since you’ve last seen me.” I said. My mom nudged me. I knew I should’ve been acting nice. I just really didn’t want to spend this whole vacation with them.
“Ha. You are so funny Blair. You know,” he whispered. “Grayson has been so excited to see you again. I think he really likes you. You’re all he’s been talking about for the past 48 hours!”
“Aw, Jim, that is so sweet! Blair-did you hear that? You and Grayson are going to have such a good time on this trip together!” My mom said. She’s crazy if she thinks I’m going to be spending all my time with this loser-freak Grayson. He was just a boring person. And he is like crazily good at school. He took like 4 college level classes freshman year. There is no way I could hang out with this kid. We have NOTHING in common.
The whole plane ride there I sat looking out the window with my ipod in. I couldn’t wait to get to the island and just escape.

Chapter 2: Island in the sun ------------------------------------------------ “This. Is. Amazing.” My jaw dropped at the view of the ocean from my balcony. It was beautiful. The ocean waves were crashing and the sun was just setting. I could smell the ocean air and the wind blowing all around me.
My mom got me my own room with an ocean view, and for once, I was actually grateful for something she did for me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breathe.
“Mmmm.” I said then slowly exhaled.
“Prodigious view, huh?”
I snapped my head around to find Grayson standing in my room. Ugh, him and those big words I never understood.
“Damnit Grayson.” I glared at him. “You scared me. And what does that even mean?”
“Awesome, fascinating, incredible, marvelous-“
“Ok I get it. It’s pretty. Geez that’s all you had to say.”
“Well. Someone’s in a good mood this evening.”
“I just wanted some alone time for once. Why are you even in here?”
“Your mother wanted me to let you know we’re meeting in the lobby for dinner in 20 minutes. Dress is semi-formal. Don’t be late either.” He winked at me.
“Coolthanksyoucanleavenowbye!” I said shoving him towards the door.
“But Blair wait I-“
I slammed the door shut.
“Ugh, Poor kid.” I said to myself then laughed a little at his lame attempts to impress me. I opened my suitcase to unpack. I was still in my pants and uggs from the cool weather back in texas and I was starting to break a sweat.
I slipped on a khaki skirt and a brown stoned halter top and matching brown sandals. I quickly brushed on some bronzer and left my hair down and wavy.
I sprayed some perfume, grabbed my iphone, and flew out of my hotel room. I was starving.
Once I got down to the lobby I heard Ali screaming my name.
“Blair, Blair look!” She pointed to the Aquarium. There were three solid walls leading down one hallway. It was really interesting too look at. There didn’t seem to be 2 fish that looked alike.
Me and Ali stood there for a moment watching the fish and then my stomach growled.
“Come on Ali, I’m hungry. And we should probably get out of here before Grayson comes up and gives us a biology lecture on the science of fish and their environment .” I smirked.
“What!?” Ali sounded so confused.
“Ha." I smirked. "Never mind. Let’s just go eat.” I took her hand in mine and we walked outside to the resteraunt meeting the rest of our group.
It was finally starting to get dark and cooler as the sun went down. I got chilled as I sipped my first daiquiri of the trip. But I didn’t mind. Yum.

Chapter 3: Anywhere but here -------------------------------------------------- The next morning I woke up to the sun gleaming in my room and onto my face.
“Ah. My vacation officially starts right now.” I decided to order room service and change into my bathing suit and get ready for the day as I waited for it.
I spent the whole morning out by the pool sipping a strawberry daiquiri. My mom and Ali had plans to feed the stingrays and were spending the whole day around the aquarium. Ali was so fascinated by those fish.
I walked down to the beach mid-afternoon. I loved the beach. Especially the sand in-between my toes and the sound of the waves crashing. It doesn’t get much better than that. I put on my Ray Bans and pulled out Twilight and started to read.
And that’s about how I spent the rest of the day. I finished the whole book.
“Blair-look at me! Woooh!” I heard a strangely familiar voice coming from the water.
It was Grayson. He was trying to surf! As much as I hated to admit it, he was kind of cute. He got so excited when he stood up for the first time. And he had a pretty smile. Maybe I wasn’t giving this kid enough credit.
“Yeah, Grayson!” I yelled back at him giving him two thumbs up.
“Wait, what am I thinking?” I said to myself. “I’m supposed to hate this kid.”
About that time I saw him running up the beach towards me. “What’d you say?” He said out of breath.
“Oh, nothing.” I shook it off. “You were good at there! Honestly, I didn’t think you would be able to do it.”
“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?!” He said offensively.
I just laughed. “I’m kidding Grayson. You take everything so seriously. Just let loose!”
“Easy for you to say.” He grinned.
“Hey, Any idea where our parents and Ali are? My mom was supposed to call me after the fish thing, but it’s been like 3 hours and I haven’t heard from her.”
“Yeah, I think they were going to the north beach. Some little band is here performing and Ali begged to go. So I guess it’s just you and me.” I could tell he was excited.
“Do you want to get a drink, or go horseback riding? Or surf? I can teach you!” He begged.
“Yeah sure I’d love t-“ I stopped and thought to myself for a minute.
“Actually, I think I’m going to go up to my room and shower. We’ll be meeting for dinner soon.” I said.
“Blair dinners not until 7:30, it’s only like 5:00.” He said slightly disappointed.
“Yeah well, you know me. Takes me along time to get ready.” I lied. I could get ready in 10 minutes if I had to. But I couldn’t be this nice to Grayson. He’d think I liked him. And I definitely didn’t. So I was not going to lead him on.
“Okay..” I could tell he was slightly upset.
“Whatever Grayson, I’ll see you at dinner.” I grabbed my Vera Bradley beach bag and slipped on my cover up and flip flops. “Tell my mom I’ll be in my room if she needs me.”
I quickly left the awkward situation Grayson was putting me in. I didn’t want to be rude to him, but it was better than actually pretending to like him. Plus I didn’t want to be seen with him when I was out in public. This Island was crawling with hot guys.
I got back to my room and got into the shower. I wondered what concert my Mom took Ali too. I haven’t heard about anyone being here. Hmm oh well. It was probably just some little boy band. I got out of the shower and slipped on my white strapless Lily dress and white basket weave wedges. I got pretty tan today so I decided white would look the best against my newly bronzed skin.
I was starting to fix my hair when I heard a knock on my door.
"Coming!” I walked briskly over to the door.
“Oh-hey Grayson. What do you want?” I said with annoyance in my voice.
"I just wanted to see if you wanted some company to walk down to dinner.”
“Grayson, the resteraunt is just right downstairs. I’m sure I can find it myself. Thanks anyways though!” I was about to shut the door but he held it back with his hand.
“Blair can I just come in?”
“Ew no Grayson! I’m getting ready.” I said blocking the way through the doorframe.
“Fine-but I’ll be waiting for you downstairs. I’ll save you a spot next to me.” He tried to sound sexy. It didn’t work.
“Get out Grayson.” I snapped back to him and slammed the door.
“Ugh.” I thought to myself. I rushed to finish getting ready so I could beat him downstairs. There was no way I was sitting next to him.
“Oh Blair, Nice of you to join us!” Grayson said as I walked towards to table to sit down. By the time I got there, everyone was already seated.
“Blair where have you been?” My mom asked.
“I thought you said dinner was at 7:30?” I whisper yelled to Grayson.
“And I thought I told you to sit by me?” He said back with a smile.
“No. Negative. Never.” I walked to the other side of the table and pulled up a chair next to Ali.
I was so bored out of my mind. All Mr. Keller was talking about was Grayson's future and his academics. BORING. This was winter break, seriously? Who talks about school on our break. Not to mention my mom looked like an alcoholic chugging down her margaritas in one sip.
"Get me out of here..” I thought to myself.

Chapter 4: You had me at hello -------------------------------------------------------------- I had to get up and leave the table. I couldn’t listen to my mom and Mr. Keller talk about Grayson anymore. I guess he was nice. And like really really smart.. but my mom is so set on me having a future with him. I just didn’t get that vibe. At all.
“Can I be excused?” I said in a sharp tone to my mom.
“Oh Blair, were having suuuuch a good time. Why do you wanna leave?” My mom said back. She was already on her third margarita and I knew she wouldn’t even remember this tomorrow.
“I’m not feeling well..I think I’m just gonna head back to my room and get some rest.”
“Okay if you’re sure honey bunny. Do you want some medicine?” She slurred digging through her purse before dropping it and everything spilling out.
I could see Grayson staring at me from across the table. I rolled my eyes and stood up anxiously waiting to leave.
“Ugh. No, mom seriously I’m fine. I probably just spent too much time in the sun today.”
“Okay but-“
“And you might wanna slow down on those margaritas.” I half-yelled at her.
And before my mom could even say a word back to me I was already halfway out of the restaurant.
I knew It would be awhile before my mom, Ali, and the Keller’s got up, so I decided to explore.
It was only our second night in the Bahamas and I didn’t really know my way around the resort. I walked past the aquariums to look at all the fish again, when I heard a sound.
It was a beautiful ballad. I slowly walked down the hallway and the noise grew louder. I creeped around the corner and saw a curly haired boy sitting down at the piano playing and humming along.
The lights were dim and the ballroom was completely empty. I couldn’t help but stare. This boy was beautiful.. He had perfect brown locks of hair and found it hard to take my eyes off of him.
I started to slowly walk into the room to get a better glimpse of him, then all of the sudden, “Ufff!” And I fell onto the ground. I always seemed to trip at the worst possible times.
“Ow..” I mumbled as a sat up slowly grabbing the back of my neck. I could her footsteps coming towards me. Damnit. I always managed to be noticed looking like a klutz.
“Um.. Uh.. Are you.. are you okay?”
“Yeah, wow I uh..yeah I’m fine. I just heard the music..and I tripped. I didn’t mean to interrupt, I just-“ I stopped mid-sentence and my face turned red.
“It’s okay.” He smiled. “Hah I just was playing a little..and then I..I heard you fall.” He tried so hard not to bust out laughing. I could tell by the smirk on his face.
“Oh..” I blushed. God he was even more beautiful up close.
“Here, I’ll help you up.” He held out a hand and I got butterflies.
“Th-Thanks." I grinned.
“So..what was that you were playing? It sounded really good.”
“I’m guessing you’re not a fan..?”
“A fan..? Of who?” I said awkwardly looking around the empty ballroom.
“You don’t know who I am?”
“Uh.. Should I?” I was starting to get really embarrassed. I could feel my face turning bright red.
“Well, my names Nick. Me and my brothers..we kind’ve have a band. The Jonas Brothers. Ring any bells?”
It started to all make since. The concert Ali went to this afternoon. It was his.
Shit, I thought to myself. I thought he looked familiar. I’m pretty sure Ali has a poster of him hanging in her room. It was times like this I wish I paid more attention to her.
“Ohhh, right yeah totally." I said shyly. “The Disney boys! My little sister loves you guys.”
There was an awkward silence for a moment.
“I didn’t mean it like that. Sorry, I mean I’ve personally just never listened to your music. I’m sure your great! I just-“ By this point Nick looked confused out of his mind.
“Wow what am I saying.” I said under my breath looking down.
“What was that?” He said staring at me.
"I-I’m kinda embarrassed..” I blushed looking towards the ground.
“Don’t be.” He laughed with a half smile. “It’s actually kind’ve refreshing to have a girl not chase us down begging for pictures and autographs.”
“Aww so, does that mean you wont take a myspace pic with me?!” I said sarcastically, mocking all the tween Jonas fans.
“Very funny.” He smirked. I couldn’t help but smile when I looked at him. He had the most gorgeous brown eyes. I tried not to make it obvious I was staring, but secretly I was trying to hard to memorize every detail about him.
“So, whats a big rock-star like you doing down here anyways?” I asked.
“We took a vacation. It was sort of last minute because my mom was starting to think we were working way too much. I can’t even remember the last time I could go on vacation while not having to think of work and our music.” He sighed.
“But-didn’t you have a concert today?” I said slightly confused.
“Well yeah, but it was our only one. We promised fans everytime we come here to atleast play one show. If not we’d dessapoint them.” He said that with the sweetest tone in his voice.
“So let me get this straight. You’re on vacation to get away from your music..but you play a show of your music, claim it’s your last, and then I find you in an empty ballroom on the piano p-playing your music?” I stuttered with a confused look on my face.
“Hah..I know, I mist be crazy right? It’s just my way of venting I guess. I like to have some alone to just think and write songs.”
“Oh. I’m sorry I interrupted your ‘alone time’. I-I’ll just leave. If you want. I mean you seem busy. And I don’t wanna-“
Then he cut me off. “You’re rambling again.” He smiled down at me.
“S-Sorry..I’ve just never really met a musician before. I don’t know how you famous people work.”
“Well, then how about I show you.” He said in a sultry tone.
“Uh. O-Okay. I guess I can’t say no to Nick Jonas.” He smirked and a flashed a smile back to him.
“Follow me.” He sat down at the piano bench I sat in a chair next to him.
“I just wrote this.. It’s a little different so tell me what you think.” He smiled then looked back down to the piano and started playing.
I walked across a crowded street. A sea of eyes, they cut through me. And I saw you in the middle. Your upset face, you wear it well. You camouflage the way you feel, when everything's the matter. We've all been down that road before, searching for that something more.
Worlds are spinning 'round. There's no sign of slowing down. So won't you take a breath? Just take a breath. People change and promises are broken. Clouds can move and skies will be wide open. Don't forget to take a breath.
Blink our eyes, life's rearranged. To our surprise, it's still okay. It's the way things happen. Summer comes and then it goes. Hold on tight, and brace for cold. And it's only for a moment. We've all been down that road before. Searching for that something more.
Worlds are spinning 'round. There's no sign of slowing down. So won't you take a breath? Just take a breath. People change and promises are broken. Clouds can move and skies will be wide open. Don't forget to take a breath.
Life isn't suffocating. Air isn't overrated.
Worlds are spinning 'round. There's no sign of slowing down. So won't you take a breath? Just take a breath.

[Take A Breath-Jonas Brothers: But Imagine it as a ballad on the piano]
“Wow.. That was- Wow. You wrote that just now?”
“Mhmm. Yeah. Do you think its any good?”
I cannot belive he just asked me if I thought his music was good. That was nothing like the cookie cutter pop star stuff I thought they played. It was amazing. Was he crazy?
“No. I mean yes. It was really good..like nothing I’ve never heard before.”
“You don’t expect something like that to come from a little Disney boy band?”
“No I just-Well, yeah. Sort of. I think if you played more songs like that more people could relate. I know I do.”
What the hell was I doing? I was telling Nick Jonas how to write his songs?
“Thanks.” He smiled. “I’ll remember that.”
We both looked at each other for a few moments smiling, and I could feel myself blushing. It surprisingly wasn’t awkward though. I liked it. And It was a perfect excuse for me to look at him.
And just then, I could hear a loud group of people walking down the hallway. And of course it had to be my drunken mom. Why did she have to be so damn loud when she was drunk? Although it was kind’ve funny, and I laughed at the thought of her stumbling to get upstairs.
We both turned around to the noise. Ugh, as much as I hated to do this, I had to leave Nick and go help my mom.
“I-I’d better go.” I said getting up and pacing to the door of the ballroom.
“O-okay but wait...” He said nervously.
“Yeah?” I turned around quickly, staring into those big brown eyes.
“Your name. You never told me your name.”
I smiled. “It’s Blair.” I said then ran back towards the door.
As I walked back to the lobby and up to my room he was all I could think about. There was something about this boy. Hmm..Nick Jonas. I thought the name to myself over and over again. I couldn’t keep the smile off of my face.
And for the first time since I’ve been here I wasn’t fooling myself. I was actually happy.
