I know. interesting combo...but hey? lol
On a crisp, cold, October day, an alarm clock shattered the quietness of a girl’s room. Alexis Bradshaw rolled over and silenced the clock with a press of a button, then rolled over in her bed and smiled. Sixteen. She was finally sixteen. It seemed this day had taken forever to get here. She smiled and quietly rose from her bed and walked over to her window. She opened it and her hair flew around her face as an Autumn breeze filled her room. Autumn; Alexis’ favorite time of year. Usually the most people in her small Connecticut town wanted Fall to hurry up and pass so the holiday’s could be here. "Our town looks so much better in snow! Not cracking leaves!"
"We have so many parade! So many lights!" or the ever popular "Halloween is just another excuse for children to run around and cause trouble! We should skip Fall entirely!" All the old, stuffy towns people would say to her every time she’d express her love for the season. She had to endure those saying since she was born. October 31st, 1992. Everyone always asked her "Don’t you hate being born on Halloween? I mean seriously." She would always shake her head and smile. "It’s my favorite time of the year." She would reply simply before going about her own business. Some people would laugh at her and say "You’re just emo like that."
But Alexis was far from Emo. She wasn’t preppy, wasn’t punk, she wasn’t sporty, nerdy, chic, or classy. She was Alexis. She always was, and always will be.
After a moment, she closed her window and walked over to her closet. She grabbed a pair of dark jeans, boots, and a turtle neck sweater that was dark, emerald green. After she was dressed, she sat down in front of her desk and began brushing her hair. Everyone had always said she had the prettiest hair in the town, and she would always roll her eyes and say "We only have 4,000 people. And half are over sixty."
Her hair was long, and it was a rich chestnut color. She had thick bangs that stopped just about her eyebrows to show off her intense green eyes.
When she was completely ready for the day, she went to her door, opened it, and walked out into her hallway. In every corner there was a witch, mummy, or a pumpkin that light up or made noises as someone walked by. The Bradshaw’s were known for going all out in Halloween decorations. As Amber turned the corner to walk down the stairs, she was attacked but a three and a half foot monster. She giggled as she peeled her little brother off her leg. "Hey Cole, why are you already in your costume?"
Her little brother’s blue eyes locked with hers. "Well I was actually wondering if you would be so kind as to tend to a rip I have in the sleeve."
Alexis couldn’t help but smile. A few days with grandma, and her 3 year old brother sounded like he was ready to have tea with all the rich old ladies in the town of Maplewood. Alexis got on her knees and looked at her little brother’s sleeve. "I’ll tell you what, Cole. Go put it in my room and I’ll sew it up before you go trick-or treating tonight, okay?"
"Thank you, Alexis!" Cole shouted as he darted off to her room. "Oh," he said over his shoulder. "Happy birfthday."
She smiled again. "Thanks, Cole."
When her little brother was out of sight she stood up, and headed downstairs into her kitchen. Sh saw her mom, dad, and older brother already sitting at the table. She smiled and sat down. "Good morning, mom..I was.."
"Oh honey I’m glad that you’re awake! Did Cole show you his rip in his costume?"
Alexis stared. No happy birthday? Okay, don’t jump to conclusions just yet. She nodded. "Yes m’am. I’m going to sew it up later."
She glanced at her older brother. Sam, the biggest football jock but the smartest and sweetest guy Alexis ever knew. She smiled at him and he stopped eating his cereal. "Why are you staring at me?"
Alexis raised an eyebrow. Maybe I’m confused...She looked at her dad. "Today IS halloween, right?"
Her dad nodded. "The busiest day of the year for us. And the most important."
Alexis smiled with anticipation. Every year the town had a blow-out halloween party and her parents were always in charge. And it was always a plus that she was the birthday girl.
"So Amber," her dad started, "We need you to run to the store and pick up a few things okay? List is on the counter."
She gapped. Are they serious? She gulped. "Today is my birthday, right?"
Her family stared at her, then laughed.
"Oh course it is, honey."
"I would know, I gave birth to you."
"And you got an A on your last paper because?" Sam started but was cut off by his dad’s glare. Her mom patted her hand. "Happy birthday, sweetie."
"That’s it?" Alexis asked, getting more hurt and angry by the minute.
"Honey we don’t have time today to make such a big deal about this." Her mom started, "Trust me..tomorrow we’ll celebrate it."
"Don’t bother." Alexis mumbled. She stood up, walked to the counter and grabbed the list. After waiting a minute to see if this was actually happening, she scoffed and marched out of the door.
Alexis walked silently down the cobblestoned path. She found herself on Main Street. She looked at the list in her hands. Grunting, she walked into the General Store.
A half and hour later Alexis made her way back home. She was dreading it; she really didn’t feel like chatting with her family today. Alexis glanced around. She wasn’t going to cry. It was only in the morning. Things could get better. Maybe...
"Bambi??" Somebody said, then she smiled.
"HENRY!!" Amber whipped around and ran towards a guy leaning against a white fence. He smiled at the sight of her.
"Hey Bambi!" He laughed. Henry was twenty, and had know Alexis since she was little. He had dark hair and even darker eyes. "Happy birthday!"
Alexis smiled back. "Thanks. You’re like the only one who seems to care."
Henry waved her off. "I doubt that. So what do you need?"
"How did you know I wanted something?" Alexis raised her eyebrow.
Henry laughed again and ruffled her hair. "I know you."
" Well actually. I don’t need anything..."
Henry raised his eyebrow and Alexis sighed.
"Will you PLEASE take these back to my house? I really don’t wanna go home right now..."
"Well..."
"Plleeeaaaseee?" She begged.
Henry took the bags out of her arms and nodded. "Alright, girly. See you later."
Alexis gave him a peck on the cheek. "Thank you!!" She said, then took of and ran the other direction. When she was out of sight, she let a tear fall down her cheek. This is ridiculous. She thought, checking her watch. It wasn’t even lunch time and she was miserable. This is supposed to be the happiest day of her life! Or was that the day you get married? Alexis scoffed. A cold breeze came by and she wrapped her arms around her and continued walking.
An hour later, Alexis found herself sitting in a up-right tire swing that hung down from a huge Apple tree. She was in a field, and next to a long white fence. The leaves were orange, green, red, and yellow. Every time the wind would blow, they were swirl around and create a masterpiece. Alexis watched the leaves twirl around. She leaned her chin on the tire and sighed.
"Bad day?" Someone asked.
Alexis' head shot up. She glanced at the fence in front of her. A boy dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow leaned on the fence and looked at her. He gave a smile. Even with some of his teeth "blacked out", he still had a gorgeous smile. And those brown eyes...
Alexis shrugged. "It's been okay..."
The pirate jumped over the fence and leaned against it the other way. "You wanna talk about it?" He asked sincerly.
Alexis couldn't help but giggle at his costume. When he gave her a funny look she shook her head. "I'm sorry...but um how are you?"
The pirate took off his hat and gave a bow. "Captain Joe Sparrow, at your service."
Alexis raised her eyebrows as if saying "ah.". "I'm Alexis." She replied.
Joe leaned against the fence again. "What’s wrong?"
Alexis sighed. "Oh, nothing."
"I’m sorry for prying..." Joe began, "But I saw you as I was walking....you didn’t look so happy."
"Well you’re right on that one." Alexis sighed again. She leaned her chin on the tire swing again. She raised her eyebrow at Joe. "Why exactly are you dressed up now? And aren’t you a little old to be trick or treating?" She snapped, then clamped her mouth shut.
Joe chuckled. "Testy."
She bit her lip and shook her head. "I’m sorry. I’m just mad. I didn’t mean to take my anger on you."
Joe shrugged, then glanced at her. "Why are you upset?"
"Nothing..it’s just..." She shook her head. "Nothing. Um..I’m sorry but I would really like to be alone right now."
"Okay, then." Joe stood up and began walking away.
Alexis cussed, then hopped off the tire and ran towards the pirate. "Joe! Joe wait, I’m sorry."
He turned around. "No it’s my fault for bothering you." He said, then turned to walk away again.
Alexis let another tear fall from her eye. "My family forgot my birthday." She blurted out, then closed her eyes.
Joe stopped then whipped around. "WHAT?"
Alexis opened her eyes. He was right in front of her. She jumped back, then regained herself. "Today’s my birthday. And my family forgot it.."
Joe took her arm and lead her back to the tire swing. He motioned her to get back on it, then he hoped on the fence.
"I’m sure they didn’t forget it ENTIRELY.." He said, playing with a twig he found.
Alexis scoffed. "Okay they said happy birthday to me..but.."
"Then what’s your problem?" Joe asked.
Alexis was caught off guard. "Excuse me?"
"I said," Joe began, "They said happy birthday. So they didn’t forget. So what’s your problem?"
Alexis' mouth dropped, then she began stuttering. "I..i.."
Joe smirked. "Exactly. How old are you today?"
"How old are you?" She asked, getting annoyed.
"I’m nineteen." Joe said, ignoring the fact he was making her mad. "Now how old are you?"
"I’m sixteen..." Alexis replied, glaring at him. Joe smiled, and she got butterflies, but what came out of his mouth next made them go away...sorta...
"Were you expecting presents? A car perhaps?" He laughed. "No wait..I bet you were expecting early access to your trust fund.."
Alexis gasped. "Excuse me?!"
Joe waved her off and started breaking the twig in his hands. "I’m not stupid; I have eyes. This town is like a millionaire’s town. Even the ants here have mansions."
Alexis began to turn red. "Why are you being such a jerk?"
"Why are you being such a brat?" Joe retorted, smiling.
"Who do you think you are talking to me like that?" Alexis said, loudly.
Joe laughed and slapped his knee. "There you go again! Spoiled rich-girl from Connecticut thinks she’s above everyone and can’t be talked to like that. There are a lot worse things then your parents forgetting to say happy birthday to you. And heaven forbid waiting til lunch time to give you your brand new Porsche!"
Alexis was shaking. "I don’t know who the hell you are but.."
"But what?" Joe taunted. "Come to think of it..can you even DRIVE yet?"
"I get my licences in 3 weeks! And who said I wanted a CAR for my birthday? My family could have at least PRETENDED like they care." Alexis yelled, struggling to get out of the tire swing. It flipped over and she landed on the ground. She jumped up and glared at the boy in front of her.
Joe began laughing. "You okay?"
"Shut up a$$ hole!" Alexis shouted.
"Oh-ho-ho!" Joe replied, hopping off the fence and began walking towards her. "You can call me names but I can’t talk bad about you?"
Alexis took a step back as he approached her. "You damn right."
"Look who’s being mean now?" Joe said, giving a smile.
Alexis' stomach did summer-Saults, but she continued to glare. "I’m not the one who started this."
Joe scoffed. "Of COURSE you started it. You just wanted to play the pity card. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing. Sitting alone crying on a tire swing? You WANTED somebody to come and feel sorry for you."
"I wasn’t crying!"Alexis said, trying to defend herself. She took a step back. "And who said I wanted YOU to come!?"
Joe shrugged. "Okay maybe not me..but you and I both know if you wanted to be alone, you would find a place no one would find you."
"You don’t even KNOW ME!"Alexis yelled, but felt a pang in her stomach again.
Joe ignored her. ".. And I gave you a chance and walked away...but nooooo you wanted me to stay so you would get my sympathy. Well think again honey ‘cause you’re not gettin’ it!"
"Ughhh!!!!" Alexis grabbed her hair. "You’re so infuriating!!"
"Then why aren’t you gone?" Joe asked, not trying at all to hide the fact he was loving every minute of this.
Alexis glared, but she couldn’t say anything.
Joe smiled in triumph. "Exactly. You’re not leaving because like me, you enjoy every minute of this because you know I’m right!"
Alexis raised her hand to slap him, but his hand shot out and grabbed her wrist. She went to jerk away, but he held onto her and took a step closer to her.
She tried to wiggle away. "Let GO of me."
Joe snatched his hand away. "Admit that I’m right."
"HELL NO! Because you are horribly wrong! In fact, you’re just horrible! I’m not some spoiled rich girl who cares only about $100,000 cars and trust funds! I love my family and so what they only wished me a happy birthday!? So WHAT they aren’t going to throw me a blow-out party tonight. So what?! At least I’m alive and at least they love me and-"
Alexis stopped when she saw the look on Joe’s face. She took a step back. "You didn’t mean of that...did you?"
Joe suddenly looked like a little boy. He gave a helpless look. "No, I didn’t.."
Alexis couldn’t help but laugh to herself. "I can’t believe I’m saying this...but I actually feel better."
Joe took a step closer to her. "Mission accomplished."
Alexis glanced up at him. "You did ALL that just to make me realize how selfish I was acting?"
"I actually made it up as I went along. I’m sorry, Alexis ." Joe apologized sincerely.
She shook her head. "It’s okay...I kinda feel better..." She then slapped Joe on his arm.
"Heeey!!"
"That’s for being a fake-jerk. You’re actually pretty good; have you ever acted before?"
Joe gave a smile. "A few times.."
Alexis sighed. "So what now?"
Joe leaned down and gave her a soft kiss on the lips. He pulled away after a few seconds. "Happy birthday."
Alexis was staring at him. "T-thank you?"
Joe flashed her a smile. He took off his hat and bowed. "Goodbye,Alexis ." He winked at her and began walking away.
Alexis stood there in shock for a moment, then snapped out of it. She glanced behind her. "You’re just walking away?"
Joe glanced back. "I have a feeling we’re going to run into each other soon."
Alexis' mouth dropped. "I can’t believe this..."
After a moment, Joe was gone. Alexis rounded on the tree and kicked it. "CAN THIS DAY GET ANY WORSE??!?!" She began hopping on one foot as the pain shot through the other.
A few hours later, Alexis was sitting at a diner eating a sandwich. She scoffed.
"First, my parents forget my birthday. Second, I meet this unbelievable hot jerk...he insults me, kisses me, then leaves! Now my foot hurts, I have a HUGE headache..and this is the worst birthday ever!!!"
"Woah. And I thought I had it bad." Someone said behind her. Alexis jumped and looked behind her. A man dressed as Indiana Jones was standing behind her, whip and all. He looked around. "Do you mind if I sit down? Everywhere is full."
Alexis looked at all the empty tables. She shrugged. What the heck? "Sure."
Indiana Jones smiled and sat down in the booth. He faced her. "You look pretty upset."
Alexis played with her straw in her rootbeer. "Yup."
Indiana Jones laughed. "You wanna talk about it?"
"No no no. Last time an insanely hot guy.. -Jones raised his eyebrow and Alexis blushed- ...last time I told one my problems he kissed me then just took off. Jerk."
Jones couldn’t help but laugh. "He kissed you..then ran off?"
Alexis scoffed. "YES! But he was so cute..." She sighed, then looked at the man in front of her. "I’m Alexis ."
He held his hand a cross the table and she shook it. "I’m Kevin."
Alexis cocked her head. "Have we met before?"
He shrugged. "I doubt it. I’ve never been here before."
"You look very familiar. Like...I see you on T.V.."
Kevin gave a smile and pointed to his costume.
Alexis blushed. "Right..."
"So, it’s your birthday?"
"Yup. Sweet-sixteen."
"Well Happy birthday!"
Alexis took a sip of her drink. "Thanks."
"Why are you having a bad day?"
Kevin asked sincerely.
Alexis hesitated. "It’s just...it’s just been going from bad to worse. And to top it off? I still have to go to the Halloween party tonight...but enough about me. How’s your day going?"
"Bad."
"Bad?"
"I lost my brothers.."
"‘Lost’ as in..??"
Kevin gave a half laugh. " Lost as in if I don’t find them in 40minutes tonight’s going to be.." Kevin stopped. His hazel eyes widened as he looked at Alexis .
"Ugh..today..what did this guy look like earlier? Did he happen to be dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow?"
Alexis gasped. "Yes. Do you know him?"
Kevin shot up. "He’s my brother. Which way did he go?!?"
Alexis jumped. "Um...that way?" She said, pointing to her left.
"Thank you! See you later Alexis !" Kevin smiled, then darted out of the diner.
"See you later?" Alexis mouthed. "Wait! He knows that guy Joe!" She glanced behind her. Indiana Jones/ Kevin had already darted out of the diner and began running down Main Street.
Alexis quickly paid for her meal, then shot out of the diner as well. She spotted Kevin running around a corner. "Hey! Wait!!! Indiana! No- Kevin..whoever you are wait!"
Alexis took the corner so fast, she slammed into someone as they walked out of a music store. They smacked into each other and landed on the ground. Amber groaned. She opened her eyes to see Harry Potter laying on top of her. She gasped. "NICK JONAS?!?"
Harry Potter shot up, then helped Alexis to her feet.
"Are you okay?" He asked, looking at her.
Alexis nodded, then gave a smile."You're Nick Jonas."
Nick smiled back. "Yes."
Alexis' mouth suddenly dropped. "Joe...Kevin..Nick...oh my god this isn't happening!"
"What?"
Alexis shook her head. "No..no I did not get into a screaming match with Joe Jonas..and no he did NOT kiss me and run off. And no way did I tell Kevin Jonas his brother was a jerk..and THERE IS NO WAY I JUST CRASHED INTO NICK JONAS!"
Nick jumped. "Um are you okay? I must have hit you pretty hard." He took her hand and lead her to a bench. They both sat down.
Alexis was breathing hard. "This isn't happening..." She glanced at Nick. "You're really Nick Jonas?"
He slowly nodded.
Alexis made a screaming noise then smashed her head into her lap.
Nick's eyes widen. "Oh boy.." He poked her shoulder. "Hey um..."
"Alexis." She mumbled.
"Right. Are you okay?"
She shot up so fast she scared Nick half to death. "This day just gets weirder!"
"What not you tell me about it?" Nick asked, nervously.
Alexis looked at him, then launched into her story.
"...and then Kevin gets up and runs off to find Joe..then I run to chase him...then I end up laying on the ground with you on top of me."
Nick blushed. "Sorry bout that.."
Alexis shrugged. "So why exactly are the Jonas Brothers in the town of MappleWood?"
Nick went to say something, then he stopped. "Did you say you're name was Alexis?"
"Mhm?"
"Wait..your name is Alexis Bradshaw?"
She gasped. "How do you know my name?"
Nick's eyes widened. "Oh boy." He jumped up. "Listen ugh...I really gotta go find my brothers. I'll see you around. Um..bye!" And with that, Nick took down the streets running. Alexis saw him whip out a cell phone and put it to his ear, then he disappeared around the corner.
Alexis sat there for a moment, before she grunted loudly. "I WAS DITCHED BY ALL THREE JONAS BROTHERS IN ONE DAY?!" She looked up at the sky. "You know? You're very cruel sometimes. I mean seriously....”
Her phone rang. She picked it up. “WHAT!?”
“Woah, Lex.” It was Sam. “Where are you?”
“MainStreet...” Alexis grumbled.
“Right. Well it’s 4:30. You need to get your butt home and get ready for the party. We’re leaving early to go get a few things.”
Alexis gasped. “I forgot to fix Cole’s costume!”
“Don’t worry about it. Mom did it. You have your key right?”
“Mhm..” She replied, slowly walking down the sidewalk.
Sam nodded. “Okay. We wont be here when you get back...but we’ll see you at Town Hall. Okay? 7:00pm.”
“Yuup.”
“Don’t forget okay?”
“Goodbye Sam.” Alexis hung up.
Sam looked at his phone, then his three male companions.
“Do you think she knows?” One asked.
Sam laughed. “Absolutely no idea.”
A while later, Alexis sat in her room putting on her makeup. This year she decided to dress up as an Evil Pixi. She was wearing green and black stripped stockings with matching long gloves with holes cut for the fingers, a black mini skirt, and a black and green cute shirt. She had wings pinned on her back, and she let her hair down long. Dabbing the last bit of green eyeshadow on, she glanced at the clock. 6:00pm. When she was all done, she got up and made her way downstairs. Passing by a mirror, she grabbed her wand and winked at her reflection. Oh yeah. She looked GOOD. She reached for her purse and he headed out the door.
Captain Jack Sparrow, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and a few other people stood up on stage in Town Hall doing a sound check. Indiana fiddled with his guitar as he glanced at the pirate.
“So lemme get this straight...you kissed her?”
Harry’s mouth dropped. “I thought she was joking..” he glanced at the Pirate. “You really did kiss her??”
Captain Jack smiled. “I might have..”
“WHY?” His two brother chorused.
The pirate stared off into space and smiled. “She has these eyes...they make you feel hypnotized. And when she’s angry..she’s like a ball of fire...she’s just..woah...”
Indiana nodded. “Riiiiggghhht. And you had NO idea she was Alexis Bradshaw?”
Captain Jack suddenly looked guilty. “Okay okay, Kevin. I KNEW it was her.”
“Then why the heck did you cause all that trouble?”
Harry laughed. “Why does Joe ALWAYS cause trouble? For the fun of it!”
Indiana laughed and Captain Jack turned red. “Guys it’s not like that...”
“Oh sureee.” Jones said, trying not to laugh. “She’s the one.”
“I think she is!” Jack replied loudly.
Harry and Jones stopped laughing.
“Dude,” Harry began, “She probably hates you.”
"I kinda agree with Nick, man." Indiana said, then went back to his guitar.
1. Captain Jack sighed and went over to the microphone. "Testing...testing..."
"Joe’s-in-love-with-a-girl-who-thinks-he’s-a-dork." A spaceman coughed into his microphone.
"Oh Garbo shut up!"
"GUYS!" Indiana yelled, taking out his whip and cracking in against the stage. "Stop fighting."
The spaceman went back to his sound check, while Harry Potter and Freddy Crooger began laughing.
Indiana glanced at them. "Nick...John..."
Captain Jack hopped off the stage. "I'll be back." He mumbled walking away. The pirate walked through Town Hall. The whole town was there. It was decorated wonderfully, and people were everywhere; just waiting. Jack turned the corner. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a Pixi through the window. His eyes widened, then he turned around and ran back into the huge room.
Alexis walked into Town Hall. After going through the third door, she entered a pitch black room. "Helllooo?" She called, and her voice ehcoed so loud she jumped back. Suddenly, guitars started playing, then the drums, then every light in the room came on.
"SURPRISE!! HAPPY BIRHTDAY ALEXIS!" The whole town yelled. Alexis jumped. Her whole highschool was here. And the whole town. The whole room was decorated like Halloween. Everyone was in costumes, and there was a banner over the room that said ‘Happy Halloween Alexis!’ Alexis looked around the room. She saw her family waving at her. Everyone began clapping. She ran to her parents.
“Wha...what..WHAT?”
Sam laughed. “Did you think we would just FORGET your birthday?”
Alexis wiped a tear from her eyes and hugged her family. “Thank you, guys!”
Suddenly, Captain Jack grabbed the mic. He did his famous ‘scream’, followed by “LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED! A 1, 2,3,4!!!!!”
The band began rocking out and everyone started dancing as strobe lights and a disco ball came down. Everyone danced as the band played a few songs, then it hit Alexis. She gasped and ran to the stage. She looked up at the lead singer. He grabbed the mic again. “Good evening everyone!!! this next song is dedicated to the birthday girl! And..”
“JOE JONAS!!!” Alexis yelled at the top of her lungs. Everyone silenced. Joe slowly looked at her. “Hi...” He said, suddenly feeling nervous that all eyes were on him.
Alexis glared. “You. YOU three are playing at my Birthday Party?”
Joe shrugged. “Surprise?”
Alexis disappeared for a moment, and next thing the boys knew she was on stage with them. Nick, Kevin, and Joe all stood in front of her.
“H-hi..” Nick stuttered.
Alexis smiled at him and Kevin. “Hello boys.”
Joe smiled, but when she glared, he gulped.
“So..Joe Jonas.” She said, walking towards him. She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him off the stage and out of the huge room into another one. She smacked him against the wall.
“Yes?” He asked, smirking. He had to win this battle. He just HAD to.
Alexis rased her eyebrow. “What the heck are you doing here?”
“You’re parents hired us??”
“NO. I mean what the heck are you doing up here? How in the world do you just KISS a girl then DITCH her then SHOW UP at her BIRTHDAY PARTY to SING to her?!?!”
Joe had backed up. “Your emphasizes of the words kinda scare me..”
“They should!” She barked.
Joe went to reply, then he stopped. He smirked. “You know you enjoyed it.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard right. You’re mad that you actually enjoyed it. And you’re mad that you’re not mad about it.”
“But..but..that doesn’t make any sense!” Alexis said, taking a step back.
He took a step forward. “Yes it does. You know it does.”
Alexis balled his fists and grunted. “You are SO ANNOYING!”
He laughed. “And you’re cute.”
“Don’t try to flatter me, Jonas.”
“Oh? We’re resorting to last names now? What happened to our relationship?”
Alexis turned red. Not blushing., of course. “We never HAD a relationship.”
Joe thought for a moment. “True. So lets start one.”
“WHAT?”
He took another step towards her. “Go out with me.”
“HA! I would NEVER go out with someone like you.”
“Exactly. But you would go out with ME.” Joe smiled.
Alexis was running out of things to say. And room to move. While she was walking back she had turned around to head for the door. She was a few steps away from it. “No!”
“No?” Joe said, looking hurt. “Why?”
“Because!” She yelled, as if it was obvious. “You’re...rude, pompous, arrogant, and ego-maniac..”
“Alexis?” Joe asked, taking a step forward.
“WHAT?” She yelled again.
“Please?”
Alexis looked into those big brown eyes and got lost. Joe stared at her, and the next thing she knew her back was against the wall and Joe was kissing her. Alexis kissed him back, then lightly pushed him away. “You do know I think you’re the most arrogant boy I’ve ever met right?”
"Really?" Joe asked.
She shook her head. "No."
Joe laughed and kissed her. “Well that’s good. Because I think you’re the most conceited girl I’ve ever seen.”
Alexis giggled. “Really?”
Joe pulled away and rubbed her cheek with his thumb. “No.” He whispered, smiling. “Happy Birthday, Lexi.”
“Happy Halloween, Joe.”
