Prologue

Meriah’s POV

I woke up to the noise of my radio/alarm clock blaring out the newest single of the latest singing sensation sweeping the globe, The Jonas Brothers. “What am I doing today?” I wondered as I glanced at the clock and noticing the time. 8:45. I jolt up out of bed just as my cell phone comes alive with the music of The Backstreet Boys “Just Want You To Know.”

“Meriah, time to get your butt in gear and get ready for your interview that is in 2 ½ hours. Oh, and don’t forget to pick me up on your way out”, my best friend Janeen tells me as I am scrambling around before finding my interview outfit I picked out last night. ‘What was it doing on the back of the couch? Oh well.’

“I am up and…” I pause mid-sentence as I put the phone down and putting on my shirt, “am just finishing getting dressed. I will be at your place in 10-15 minutes. Have bagels and coffee ready.”

I probably should introduce myself before too much longer. My name is Meriah Fuller and I am currently out the door and on my way to pick up my best friend Janeen Laurie for the hour long drive for an interview that will surely change our lives as we know it.

The interview is with Paul Jonas Sr. to work as make-up and wardrobe assistants for his sons’ upcoming world tour. Yep, we are interviewing to work with/for the Jonas Brothers. My area of knowledge will hopefully garner me a spot as a make-up artist for them, while Janeen will be showing how much she knows about costuming a show.

Pulling into Janeen’s driveway, I park the car just as she was coming out the door carrying her backpack and our breakfast and headed to my car.

“Lets go”, she yells as I put the car back into gear. “OK, exactly how excited are you to be maybe working with Kevin? I am so ready to blow their socks off when I show them what I’ve brought in my portfolio.”

“I am probably as excited as you are to maybe working with Joe. And I’ve brought my laptop with video clips showcasing my work. I have quite a few clips what with working on all those local shows and photos shoots I’ve done.”

~*~An Hour Later~*~

After checking to make sure that we were at the right place, seeing as I never drive to Portland, I pulled into a parking lot close to the hotel where the interview was being held at. As soon as we had stopped, Janeen and I both got out of the car and gathered our materials. We exited the parking structure and walked over to the hotel.

Since my interview was after Janeen’s, hers was at 10:30 and mine was at 11:30, we decided that I would wait outside and go over my materials one last time before presenting them.

“Go get them Jan. Show them what you’re made of.”

“You just wait until we get this gig and then it is on. Just kidding, maybe” she grins slyly, “See you soon.”

Looking around and taking in my surroundings that included a shady bench area on the side of the hotel. I was about to approach when I noticed that there was already two people at the bench I was headed for. So I instead I took a bench close to them and the building. And finished getting prepared for the interview of a lifetime.

As I was getting set up, I overheard the pair mentioning “pranks” and “get revenge” and “Joe and Kevin won’t know what hit them”. Looking over to where the voices were at I noticed that the two people were non other then Nick and Frankie Jonas.

After hearing Nick and Frankie, I put my things away and approached their bench. “I am sorry for interrupting, but I couldn’t help but overhearing about some pranks that were recently pulled on you guys. How about this…if I end up getting this job along with my best friend, then I might have a couple of ideas of how to get even. My name is Meriah by the way.”

As soon as I mentioned that I might be willing to help out prank their older siblings, Nick and Frankie looked at each other and Nick got a sly look on his face as if he was already planning exactly how they were going to get even with Joe and Kevin.

“Meriah, I am sure that you will get the job that you are here for. I am also just as sure that you and your friend will fit in with the Jonases in no time at all.”

Just as I was about to respond, I looked down at my watch and noticed that I had ten minutes before my interview. Waving goodbye to the younger Jonas brothers, I turned and walked back into the hotel and into my future.

CHAPTER ONE

“So that concludes this interview. As I mentioned to Ms. Laurie, if you accept the position of make-up artist you will be put on a trial period”, Paul Sr. mentioned as we both stood up and shook hands as I told him that a trial period would work great.

“That way both parties can decide whether or not this arraignment is working out for them.”

“If that is all, then let’s go collect Ms. Laurie, Janeen, and I’ll introduce you both to the brothers.” Walking out of the conference room that we were in, we were greeted by the sight of two groups of people, group 1 being comprised of Joe and Janeen, and the second group being Nick and Kevin, armed with what looked like water guns but were actually loaded up with marshmallows. “I think that we came out at the right time. Guys, let me introduce you to the two newest members of the Jonas Brothers crew.

This is Janeen Laurie”, he pointed to Janeen as he said this, “and she will be helping out with wardrobe.” As he finished saying this, she waves at the guys and catches Joe’s eyes and just smiles at him.

“And this over here is your new make-up artist Meriah Fuller. Meriah will be replacing Christina who left to have her baby. So guys, try not to scare these girls away too soon, alright? Oh, and remember the ‘rule’ that we talked about earlier." The no-dating-those-you-work-with rule.

As soon as he finished with the introductions, he went off to find Denise and Frankie.

As Paul walked away, I realized that I was the only one not armed with a marshmallow gun. Noticing my situation, Team 2 walked up to me and flanked me while defending against the fearsome attack brought on by Team 1. They did this with one arm around me each.

After awhile of dodging flying projectiles, we were just walking down the hallway when Janeen noticed the time.

“What time do you guys have your sound check? I only ask because I don’t know what exactly what my duties as a wardrobe assistant are going to be. So shouldn’t I talk to the main person in charge?” Janeen asks as we continue walking down the hallway away from where we had our “war”.

“If you both want to ride along with us, then we can actually leave now to go to the arena. That way both you and Meriah was it?” Kevin asks while walking backwards and questions me. Seeing me shake my head ‘yes’ and smile, he looks behind him to make sure that he isn’t running into anything and finishes, “So you and Meriah can both talk to the heads of your departments.”

That being said, we made sure that Big Rob was with us, we exited the hotel via the back entrance/exit. Which was close to where I had parked my car earlier that morning/afternoon.

“How are we going to do this? Who goes with whom? I will be driving my car and anyone is welcome to ride along with me.” I get in the driver’s seat and turned around when the passenger door opened.

“You did say that anyone can come along with you. Everyone else is riding with Big Rob and will be going ahead of us.”

Chapter 2

Janeen’s POV

I was a little shocked when I was pulled away from Meriah’s car by Nick and Joe and instead got put in the car they were riding.

“What are you guys doing? Why am I riding with you and your older brother is with my best friend? I ask again…what are you all doing?”

After getting in the car behind me and sitting in the seat next to me, Joe told me, “Relax. We are ‘doing’ nothing. Kevin went with her so that in case she loses Big Rob, she can still get in the back entrance and not get arrested for being where she isn’t supposed to be.” He said all that while texting someone on his cell on his cell phone.

I don’t know about Meriah, but I’m sure that I’m going to go crazy trying to keep up with this trio of guys. But, I am sure going to enjoy the ride.

Meriah’s POV

“And that is why I am currently driving with you.” Kevin finished explaining to me before we heard his phone start to vibrate. He had gotten a text message. “Crazy Joe. I guess Janeen was a little confused as well about the whole transportation issue. He just texted me to tell you that she can’t believe what is going on.”

“Well, that is Jan for you. Even though she says one thing, she forgets about what she says and does the opposite. But it all works out in the end though. And thanks for coming with. I hate driving in the city because I tend to get lost.”

Having said that, we got underway and started just talking about anything that came to our minds.

“Favorite candy” Kevin would ask. “Gummy Bears” I would answer then ask, “Favorite ice cream” to which he would answer with “Rocky Road”.

The questions would continue like that until he asked the one question that would stall any conversation: “Do you have a boyfriend?” And the silence that that question brought on was just borderline awkward that was broken only by my quiet whisper.

“No, I don’t have a boyfriend. I broke it off with him two days ago. I had a chance at a dream job and he did not want me to pursue it. Well, that is putting it mildly.” I told Kevin in a whisper causing him to glance over and notice the look on my face as I answer his question.

‘So his way of making sure I didn’t pursue this job was to ask me to marry him. But I knew what his reasoning was so I refused. Since then, I screen my calls and don’t answer my door unless I know who is there.’ I thought to myself.

Looking at him out of the corner of my eye, I see that he suspects that there is more to the story than what I had just finished telling him. But he knew enough by just looking at my face to know not to press any further for answer just yet.

Kevin’s POV

Wow, she sure took a big chance and risk by breaking things off with her boyfriend and by taking this job working for us. Let’s just hope that she doesn’t come to regret those two decisions.

Noticing that we had lost track of Big Rob and everyone else, I was glad that I had come along with Meriah, because otherwise she probably wouldn’t be able to get in where she needed to.

***buzz***buzz***

Checking my phone that just signaled that I have a new text message I noticed that it was from Tiffany. Oh boy…

Kev,

I am so sorry for what happened with Jackson. I just hope that you can forgive us both. Call me later, please.

Tiff.

“Are you ok? Was that Joe again?” Meriah asked while pulling into the back parking lot of the arena and looking concerned. I must have had a crushed look on my face according to her expression.

“No, it wasn’t Joe. It was just my ex-girlfriend Tiffany. She wants me to forgive her for…something that happened a while ago. She also wants me to call her back.”

Getting out of the car, I realize that we had company. Namely the company of hundreds of teenage girls that were actively watching us through the fence and snapping pictures of the two of us. Shit. Gotta get inside quick.

Making sure that Meriah had all that she needed, she locked her car and I grabbed her hand and we rushed into the arena. Knowing that security didn’t know Meriah yet, I called Big Rob and had him meet us at the entrance so that she doesn’t get bounced out of the building.

“Well, here we are. I will take you to meet Lindsay and she’ll show you what you’ll be doing. You can either watch the show from backstage or you and Janeen can watch from the front row VIP Section.”

“Thanks, but I think I’ll just stay back here and watch for tonight’s performance. So I will see you in a little bit then, Kevin.”

We walk to where hair and make-up was stationed and we separated there and went our own ways.

‘Dang, I really enjoy her outlook at life and her sense of humor. Just gotta make sure that Joe doesn’t steal her away…wait a minute. What am I talking about?’

“Sound check, Kevin! You are late!” I hear Nick yell and I run out onto the stage that has become a central point of my life for the past 3-4 years.

Chapter 3

Two weeks later…

~Meriah’s POV~

*buzz**buzz**buzz*

I reach for my cell that just signaled that it had a new text message from probably one of five people. Four of whom I would reply back to, and one that I would delete without even opening the messages. Looking at the screen, I give a short laugh at the subject line: ‘Why you should get up.’ Yep this message from Joe.

Ria-

Reason #1: It is sunny outside. Reason #2...Can’t tell you reason #2 on the phone. Just come down to the restaurant for breakfast with everyone.

Shaking my head at his signature, I walked over to my suitcase. Knowing that I wouldn’t get any peace unless I got downstairs soon, I took out a pair of jeans, a baby blue t-shirt and a light jacket. Making sure that I had my purse and room key, I locked up my room and walked down to where the elevators were.

~Joe’s POV~

“I’m glad you told us about today, Janeen. Why she would want to keep this a secret is beyond me.” I told Janeen as we hurried to set up a surprise breakfast party.

Today just happens to be Meriah’s 22nd birthday and she doesn’t know that we have a surprise for her today. Since this is an off day, everyone was going to do something special and maybe a little crazy with her on her special day. That and the fact that it is the week before Christmas and we are currently at the Orlando, Florida stop on the tour. Which means…NO SNOW!! But since it was mid-December, it is wise to bring along a light jacket when leaving the hotel.

“Kevin, do you have the list of what everyone has planned?” I questioned as he shakes his head to say yes, “Now, we need to keep her out of the way until at least 4:30 tonight for the party.”

Looking up at the ding of the elevator, I turned and made sure that everyone was in place. They were and in comes the guest of honor. The birthday girl.

~Meriah’s POV~

Exiting the elevator feeling a little blue, ‘No one remembered my birthday. My family or my friends.’ I came to an abrupt stop at the sight that lay before me.

“Whose idea was this?” I ask in amazement seeing the group of people who I’ve been traveling with for two weeks now gathered around a group of tables loaded down with the best selection of breakfast foods I’ve seen at one time. Everyone pointed to the person sitting next to my best friend wearing a huge smile on his face.

“Joe? This was all your idea?” I rushed over to him and threw my arms around him and kissed his cheek. “Thank you so much. I thought no one remembered.” As I had my arms around him, I missed the look that passed between Joe and Kevin. Mostly from Kevin to Joe. Good thing I didn’t see it.

~Kevin’s POV~

‘Why did this have to be Joseph’s plan? I guess Janeen was wrong when she told me that Meriah’ll like our “outing” later today.’

I sat in shock at what had taken place at breakfast. Even now with about two hours having past and her outings with Nick and Joe been done, I still just can’t get it out of my head.

Looking down at my watch, “It’s time.” I grab what I’ll be needing for the next 1½ hours.

Walking down the hallway to where Meriah’s room was located, I knocked on her door.

~Meriah’s POV~

*knock**knock**knock*

“Ok, just a second.” Making sure that I hadn’t forgotten anything, I opened the door and let out a gasp.

‘Damn, that boy cleans up good.’

“So where are you taking me, Mr. Jonas? And might I say that you are looking mighty good tonight.”

“You shall see. It’s a surprise/secret. Thanks. And you are looking beautiful tonight, Miss Fuller.”

With that being said, he offered his arm, which I took, and led toward the elevators and pushed the down button.

Getting in, he pushed the lobby button. After doing that, he asked, “Is your birthday everything you wanted it to be?”

Looking up into his face, into his hazel eyes, I answered back with, “No. It is more than what I’ve wanted it to be. Thanks.”

*ding**ding*

Exiting the elevators, we headed toward the entrance and surprisingly there was hardly as big of a crowd of fans then there was even an hour ago. ‘Wonder where they all went?’

We got in one of the rental cars that we use while in town. Kevin then handed me a blindfold so that I wouldn’t know where we were going.

~Kevin’s POV~

After making sure that the blindfold was in place, I waved my hand in front of her face.

“How many fingers am I holding up?” I was holding up 3 fingers.

“5 fingers,” was her response letting me know that the blindfold was in fact in place.

“You all ready to go?”

“I am very ready.”

Putting the car in gear, I head off toward our destination with Meriah at my side wearing a lavender sundress with leggings and sandals with a flower over her toes. While I was dressed in a pair of jeans and a dark green button down shirt with a light green t-shirt underneath.

I pick out casual clothes and colors that he has said was his favorites. Thus we get the jeans, and green shirts look.
