Chapter Three
:
I was sitting in an airplane on my way to New York. It was the start of the summer and every summer I went and visited my cousin in New York. Whenever I went the first thing
she would say to me, besides hello, was do you want me to give you a makeover. So I figured this year I would just accept because normally I politely refuse. Then I would turn into a pretty, pretty princess.
So it has been awhile since the New Year’s party. Joe and Mandy are still dating. It drives me crazy when I am near them. Especially when they get all romantic and clingy. If I even see Mandy coming near Joe I have to make an excuse to leave so I won’t barf. Well actually one time I did barf but in my defense I was feeling kind of sick that day.
The plane was landing now so I couldn’t wait to see my cousin. Let me quickly explain this: my cousin is like one of those socialites. She only wears designer clothes, she knows everybody and every bit of gossip, is drop dead gorgeous, and goes through boys as often as she changes clothes. This if you knew her you would know is a lot. She has to wear at least three different outfits a day.
We were all exiting the plane now. It didn’t take long to find my cousin she was the only one there who was wearing a designer dress in and airport and high heels. I walked over to her and let me say I felt very inferior. I was wearing my usual sweatpants and tank top combination.
However, my sweatpants aren’t those cute sweatpants pretty girls wear for running. They are those big baggy sweatpants that most people don’t even go near and my tank tops were not some cutely designed thing. They were big and pretty much a guy’s wife beater.
“Hey Estelle.” I greeted her. See even her name was gorgeous.
“Sam! I missed you so much. I can’t wait to spend the month with you.” Estelle greeted back. She had the slightest accent that I couldn’t even place because I don’t think it was real. I think she just made it up and taught herself to talk that way but it did sound cool.
However, the one thing I noticed was missing was that she hadn’t asked me if I wanted a makeover yet. That usually popped up right away. I will just have to drop some hints that I might want one until she asks.
We headed over to the food court to get a snack before we left for her penthouse. We quickly grabbed some food and sat down at a table so we could catch up some.
“So how goes things with you and Joe?” She asked. Yeah, she knew about Joe. I pretty much told her everything since she has had so much experience with guys.
“Well, at New Year’s he dropped some hints that he liked this girl and was going to let her know so I thought it was me. I turned out to be this Mandy girl whom he kissed at midnight. Which as you know is my dream. Also, they are now going out and have been since New Years and I don’t think they are going to break up soon. I am thinking I might need to look a little more girly if I ever want Joe to notice me like that.” I said. Notice how I dropped that subtle hint at the end.
“Oof that is harsh. Oh, and I know how it always annoys you that I offer to give you a makeover every year. So this year I am not going to harass you about it constantly I understand you like the way you are.” She responded giving a reassuring smile. I just stared at her for a second.
“Really… uh cause you know…. I kinda wanted one this year… because…. JoeonlylikesmeasafriendandIreallywanttoprovetohimIcanbegirly.” I said saying the last part really quickly.
“Really? Well it is about time. No offense. You just don’t have the best style. Now first we should burn all your sweatpants, ugly tank tops, and too large sweatshirts. Then we will go shopping.” She grinned maliciously. I was getting scared of her now.
We went back to her house and she pretty much dumped my whole suitcase into the garbage can. She wouldn’t even donate it to Salvation Army she just said not even beggars in New York wear clothes like I did or something along those lines. After that she took me… shopping.
“Holy crap Estelle. This place is huge!” I exclaimed after we arrived at the mall. It wasn’t just a mall it was like a…. supermall.
“First lesson: don’t swear that is a very guy like thing to do. Now hurry up so we can get the shopping done by the weekend.”
“Wait the weekend? It is only Monday!” I exclaimed.
